Jeff’s King of the Court Pick for Tuesday, December 30: Jaylen Brown
Tuesday’s slate is a small one, with only eight teams taking the court across the association.
Only one true PRA (points, rebounds and assists) machine is slated to suit up in Luka Doncic. Doncic is always a threat to claim the crown, as evident by the pair of occasions he’s done it this season. However, the return of LeBron James undoubtedly makes it a little more difficult for Luka to rack up the necessary stats to win this prize.
Tyrese Maxey is one of the other big names on Tuesday’s slate, but a recent dip in scoring along with the re-emergence of Joel Embiid takes him out of the running for me. Kawhi Leonard has been on fire lately, scoring 124 combined points across his last three outings. Leonard will likely be a popular pick, but I’m opting for a player who has thrust himself into the MVP conversation over the last month or so.
Jaylen Brown has proven he’s more than capable of being a No. 1 option. He’s averaging 29.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.8 assists this season, all career highs. Brown just tied Larry Bird for a Celtics’ franchise record nine straight games scoring at least 30 points. He’s the reigning Eastern Conference Player of the Week, and he’s set to face a Utah Jazz squad that is allowing the most points per game in the entire NBA. All signs are pointing up for Boston’s superstar ahead of this contest.
