The main slate of Week 16 of the NFL season gave us a tightly-packed leaderboard in this week’s NFL $2.25M FANTASY FOOTBALL MILLIONAIRE [$1M TO 1ST]. Four entries finished within three points at the top of the contest, with BoangTao33 squeezing out a narrow victory by less than half a point over squirrelpatroldk to land the top spot. BoangTao33 finished with 218.2 fantasy points, the top mark from the 132,352 entries in this week’s Milly Maker. The entry was constructed around a pair of AFC West stacks with just the right other contributors mixed in.
Here’s a look at the highest-scoring entry from the Week 16 millionaire contest:
Cook, Chase, and Chris Contribute Early
The two stacks that formed the core of the entry were the key to success, but the entry had three stand-alone stars selected in the early wave, who each had big games.
James Cook III (29.4 FPTS) ran wild against the Browns, racking up 117 rushing yards and two rushing scores to go with his 17-yard reception. His big game bumped him into third-place for most rushing yards in a single season in franchise history, still with two games remaining. It was his sixth straight game with 100+ total yards.
From the other running back spot, Chase Brown (32.9 FPTS) provided more leverage with just a 6.1% ownership. He had three touchdowns against the Dolphins — two receiving and one rushing — while totaling 66 rushing yards and 43 receiving yards in the Bengals’ 45-21 romp in Miami.
The only other stand-alone player from BoangTao33’s entry was Chris Olave (39.8 FPTS), who had a huge game as the Saints marched to a third straight victory.
He finished with 10 catches for 148 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns, catching one from Taysom Hill and the other from Tyler Shough.
Lightning Strikes
The first of the two AFC West stacks at the core of this top entry from BoangTao33 was from the Chargers, who had a good matchup in Dallas against the Cowboys.
Justin Herbert (33.2 FPTS) led the way with exactly 300 passing yards and 42 rushing yards. He ran for a touchdown as well, while throwing for two more scores in the Chargers’ 34-17 victory.
One of his end zone connections went to Quentin Johnston (23.4 FPTS), who was a key differentiator for this entry with just 1.5% ownership. Johnston finished with four catches for 104 yards and a touchdown
The top entry also included Keenan Allen (9.4 FPTS) from the Chargers, who had five catches for 44 yards. With such a narrow margin of victory, every one of those catches was a crucial contribution for BoangTao33.
Just Win, BoangTao33
In the later wave, this entry had three players from the Raiders. While the minimum-salaried Raiders DST (1 FPTS) didn’t do much, they did allow the salary cap space to stack the rest of this lineup just right. They didn’t have any takeaways, sacks, or defensive touchdowns, but they got a point for allowing under 20 offensive points. And given the narrow race this week, every point mattered.
Brock Bowers (14.3 FPTS) was a good leverage play at only 2.1% ownership, since most fantasy managers stayed away from him due to his tough matchup with the Texans.
The key play in the late wave, though, was Ashton Jeanty (34.8 FPTS), who was only in 2% of entries in the Milly Maker but posted his best game of the season in the Raiders’ loss.
Jeanty became the first player in over 10 years to have both a receiving and a rushing touchdown of at least 50 yards in the same game and racked up 188 total yards to go with his two scores.
While several of the other top entries had totally different builds, Jeanty was the common denominator near the top of the leaderboard, with each of the top six entries including the rookie in their builds, despite a bad matchup and inconsistent production.
He definitely delivered some future optimism for the Raiders this week, and also lifted BoantTao33 to the top score of the week in the Milly Maker.
The Bottom Line
Big games from Jeanty and Quentin Johnston at low ownership were key to boosting this entry from BoangTao33 to the top of the leaderboard. The entry definitely went against the trends, with no player owned in more than 14% of lineups and four players with under 3% ownership. In one of the closest finishes of the season, this entry got just enough from each roster spot, including the top QB, the top two RBs, and the top WR from Sunday afternoon’s action.
Looking ahead to Week 17, all 32 NFL teams are again in action for the second-to-last week of the regular season. The NFL has a triple-header on Christmas and two games on Saturday, leaving Sunday’s nine-game slate as the smallest so far this season.
