It’s truly been a rollercoaster of a season for Colts fans. Philip Rivers is set to make his second start in a row as Indianapolis fights to stay in contention for a Wild Card spot in the AFC.
Tyler Warren struggled in his first game with Rivers, only catching three of six targets for 19 yards. I expect the connection between quarterback and tight end to be much improved on Monday Night Football. It’s clear that Rivers is lacking in arm strength and will not be throwing the ball all over the yard in this one. Instead, expect a heavy dose of Jonathan Taylor and a lot of dinking and dunking in the passing game.
The 49ers defense hasn’t been anything special against the pass this season, ranking 23rd in the NFL while allowing an average of 227.6 yards per game through the air.
Warren will provide a great security blanket in the short passing game, and I would expect him to get even more than six targets in this one. Because of that, I think he gets over this low total. He might not rip off a catch of more than 10 yards, but the volume of targets that are likely to come his way should be enough to get over 38.5 receiving yards.
Under much different circumstances, Warren went over this total nine times earlier in the season. I think he finds a way to do it for the 10th time this season under the lights of primetime.
