Sunday’s Week 16 NFL slate brings us a lot of games with heavy playoff implications, and some that hold significant sway over the top of the 2026 Draft. This matchup between the 3-11 New York Jets and the 4-10 New Orleans Saints is one of the latter. Currently fifth and seventh in the draft order, respectively, both teams are well-positioned to get the kind of talent they need. But someone has to win this game, to the chagrin of their draft hopes.
The Saints are 6.5-point home favorites on DraftKings Sportsbook. If you’re angling for a Jets upset, they’re priced at +230 on the moneyline. The game’s total is set at 40.5 points.

A rough season for the Jets has only become more trying in the past few weeks. The Justin Fields experiment did not pan out, and the QB1 job slowly ceded to Tyrod Taylor. In the midst of that, defensive stalwarts Quinnen Williams and Sauce Gardner were traded away. Now, Taylor is injured, and the Jets turn to UDFA rookie Brady Cook at quarterback. Surprise, surprise, that has not gone well.
In a blowout 48-20 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars last week, Cook tossed three interceptions. Not the ideal follow-up to his relief appearance in Week 14, where he coughed up two more picks. If the goal is to lose out and secure a top pick, Cook is your man. Even a decent quarterback would struggle with this crumbling offensive line and stumbling skill position group.
New Orleans’ QB situation is suddenly a lot more optimistic. They gave Spencer Rattler the starting gig out of training camp, and he proceeded to stumble to a 1-7 record. Now they’ve turned to rookie Tyler Shough, and he’s been the ultimate spoiler in the NFC South. Under his watch, the Saints have beaten the Buccaneers while also taking down the Panthers twice. Both teams are vying for the division title, but Shough has stood in their way, making big throws when it counts the most.
Incredibly, Shough leads all NFL quarterbacks in passer rating when trailing in the fourth quarter by one score or less. He’s been incredibly clutch in some tight wins and significantly boosts the outlook of a lost season.
So, who takes the cake in this battle of unheralded rookie quarterbacks?
Jets vs. Saints pick, best bet
It’s hard to overstate how bad the Jets have been on both sides of the ball. They’re hemorrhaging points on one end while struggling to consistently move the ball on the other. Despite these two teams being only one loss apart, the distance feels resounding at the moment. Shough’s ability to put together drives and make big throws will be the difference in this game, and the Saints will have a genuine winning streak on their hands.
