After missing six games in a row with a broken collarbone, Evans made his anticipated return last week vs. the Falcons and the star wideout caught six of his team-high 12 targets for 132 yards. Evans garnered a target on a jaw dropping 43% of his routes while running a route on 70% of his team’s dropbacks. Evans seeing huge volume wasn’t shocking, given this was a must-win for the Buccaneers and that Emeka Egbuka has been very inconsistent with Evans sidelined.
While seeing a target on 43% of his routes again is unlikely, Evans should led Tampa Bay in targets and his route rate should rise in another pivotal matchup this Sunday vs. the Panthers, as these two teams are tied for the top seed in the NFC South.
This season, Evans is seeing a target on 31% of his routes and he is leading Tampa Bay with a 13.9 aDOT. This Carolina defense he is facing is giving up the seventh-most yards per pass (7.0) and Evans shouldn’t disappoint in this spot. 65.5 receiving yards is just too low of a number for him and betting up the ladder with Evans is a totally viable move Sunday.
