What Could’ve Been…
Last Week’s NHL Ice Breaker
Alexandre Texier was last week’s Ice Breaker, with just three DraftKings Sportsbook bettors receiving a whopping $83,334 in bonus bets! Who will be the next Ice Breaker? Let’s take a look…
NHL Ice Breaker Pick for Thursday, December 18
Alex Steeves First Goalscorer (+2200)
We have a stacked slate for tonight’s Ice Breaker, with five former winners part of the slate –– Alex Ovechkin, Rickard Rakell, Claude Giroux, Bobby McMann and Alexandre Texier. Six games are starting at 7:00 p.m. ET, so there are plenty of solid options to choose from. My choice for tonight is Alex Steeves, who has netted seven goals across 18 games this season.
Steeves is a sneaky good pick that may not be popular, given the fact that he has played in a bottom-six role for Boston. Among skaters with at least 100 minutes of ice time, Steeves ranks ninth in the entire NHL in 5v5 goals per 60, six spots behind his teammate, Morgan Geekie. Just three of his seven goals have come within the first period, but considering Texier won last Thursday’s Ice Breaker on his first goal of the season, logic can be thrown out of the window. Steeves has averaged nearly two shots on goal in the first period this season, and the Bruins have averaged 3.41 goals per game at home compared to just 3.12 goals per game on the road.
