Southern Indiana sits 3–7, and this is the kind of home spot that has to become a foothold. Nobody’s coasting into January with these resumes. This is urgency basketball, not vibes. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for tonight’s college basketball game between the Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles and the Little Rock Trojans.

Johnathan Lawson (guard) is their engine at 13.9 points with 3.8 assists and 1.7 steals. Cameron Wallace (forward) adds 11.9 with 5.2 boards, and the roster has enough shooting juice to punish lazy closeouts. But even when Little Rock hits shots, the defense keeps returning the favor. One missed rotation becomes three points, and the math turns cruel.
Southern Indiana’s offense can look clunky, yet the defensive profile is the cleaner foundation. They’re scoring 73.7 and allowing 77.7, but the real difference is what they allow opponents to shoot. USI holds teams to 42.9% overall and 32.1% from three, which is a completely different universe than what Little Rock concedes. Ismail Habib (guard) gives them a true scoring hub at 18.2 per game. Cardell Bailey (forward) supplies paint production at 13.6 points and 6.4 rebounds. Ola Ajiboye (forward) is the possession-swinger with 22 blocks, and that rim resistance matters against a team that needs clean finishes to survive.
Little Rock vs. Southern Indiana pick, best bet
The Little Rock path is obvious, and it’s dangerous if it lands. They’re hitting 37.1% from three, and that’s the one weapon that can steal a road game in a hurry. If Lawson turns live dribbles into runouts, the whole building tightens. USI also shoots only 40.4% from the field, so there’s a world where the home side wastes good defense with empty trips. That’s the counter, and it’s real. I’m just not paying for it at this number.
The market has Southern Indiana -1.5, with the moneyline at -135, so we’re pricing a tight game, not a blowout. The total sits 142.5, and the pace indicators explain it, because USI plays around 74 possessions per game while Little Rock sits closer to 69. Little Rock’s effective field goal rate is about 49.6%, yet they allow roughly 58.7%, which is the kind of gap that makes small spreads feel fair. USI’s offense sits around 47.2% eFG, but they defend at about 47.7% eFG allowed, and that’s the steadier side of the trade. Free throws also lean against the upset, because Little Rock shoots 59.1% at the line, and USI doesn’t need to foul a team that struggles to cash points there.
I expect USI to keep this simple and physical, then let the game come to them. They should lean into ball screens for Habib, then punish switches with Bailey’s interior work. They should stay home on shooters, contest without flying past bodies, and trust Ajiboye to erase mistakes at the rim. Little Rock should try to speed the temperature up with early threes and pressure into chaos. If USI keeps the floor balanced and wins the shot-quality fight, the rest follows.
