There is another good bowl game on Wednesday night as the Old Dominion Monarchs take on the South Florida Bulls in the Cure Bowl.
South Florida enters as a 3-point favorite with the total set at 53.5 points. This is the best college football player prop bet to consider on DraftKings Sportsbook for the Cure Bowl.
Old Dominion vs. South Florida Player Props
This is a fascinating bowl game between Old Dominion and South Florida. South Florida was once the favorite to get the Group of Five College Football Playoff spot. However, after losing a couple of games late in the season, they lost out on that opportunity. Meanwhile, Old Dominion was the second-best team in the Sun Belt, but couldn’t contend with James Madison. These are two excellent Group of Five teams, but what complicates matters is that both starting quarterbacks have opted out for this game.
South Florida quarterback Byrum Brown is one of the best quarterbacks in the country. He led the nation in passing + rushing yards this season, with over 3,000 passing yards and over 1,000 rushing yards. He also led the nation in total touchdowns, with 42 passing + rushing touchdowns. It will be an obvious blow to the South Florida offense to start career backup Gaston Moore, rather than Brown. Meanwhile, Old Dominion quarterback Colton Joseph will also miss this game. Just like Brown, Joseph led the Monarchs in both passing and rushing. However, backup quarterback Quinn Henicle can run the same offense as Joseph, which makes the transition easier for Old Dominion.
My best prop bet for this game is for South Florida’s running back Nykahi Davenport to score a touchdown. Davenport is a good back, but was always overshadowed by his star quarterback. New starting quarterback Gaston Moore is not a runner, so it will be on Davenport to tote the ball much more often than he did in the regular season. Brown had 14 rushing touchdowns during the season, whereas those goal-line touches will now go to Davenport. The Bulls’ running back still had seven scores of his own on the season, including one in each of the last two games of the season. Davenport should get plenty of touches in this game and convert at least one of those into a touchdown.
