The main event in this matchup is Brunson vs. Wemby, and for good reason. Still, these two contenders wield plenty of other play makers. For the Spurs, that includes De’Aaron Fox. Acquired last winter from Sacramento, the All-Star has helped San Antonio’s offense become one of the Western Conference’s best. Through 17 games this season, he’s posted 23.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and 6.2 assists. In addition, he’s shooting an efficient 49% from the field. Wembanyama’s return from injury will eat into some of those counting stats. Regardless, the 27-year-old remains one of the sport’s premier point guards.
Fox’s claim to fame is his lightning-quick speed, capable of getting to the rim at a moment’s notice. With that being said, the veteran is a multi-faceted scorer. From beyond the arc, he’s proven to be a thorn in the side of opposing defenses. The Kentucky alum has knocked down over 39% of his three-point attempts this season. Fox has connected on at least three three-pointers in four of his last six appearances. He’ll look to keep the momentum going against a Knicks defense that has struggled on the perimeter. New York has coughed up 14.5 three-pointers made per game to opponents, fifth-worst in the NBA. With Wembanyama drawing defenders inside the arc, Fox should have room to shoot on Tuesday.
