Villanova Wildcats vs. Pittsburgh Panthers prediction, pick for NCAAM on Saturday 12/13/25

Finneran Pavilion gets one of those early-December games that still feels like an old Big East argument. Villanova comes home from a humbling night in Ann Arbor, still sitting comfortably in the rankings but newly reminded they’re mortal. Pittsburgh arrives at 5-5, the full spectrum on film from upsetting Ohio State to getting bullied by Hofstra. Styles are clear: Nova wants a deliberate, spaced-out half-court game, Pitt wants to lean on size and contact. With Villanova laying -10.5 and a total parked at 136.5, the question is whether that efficiency gap actually shows up as a runaway or just a long, slow sweat. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for tonight’s college basketball game between the Villanova Wildcats and the Pittsburgh Panthers.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Villanova vs. Pitt prediction, preview

Villanova’s profile still looks like a ranked team. The Wildcats score 80.6 points and allow 68.9 for a +11.7 margin, shooting 46.8% from the field and 36.5% from three. They win the glass by 7.1 boards per game, grab 38.7 rebounds a night and post a 36.8% offensive rebounding rate that keeps extra possessions flowing even when the first look misses. The ball moves: 16.0 assists against 11.0 turnovers, a 1.5 assist-to-turnover ratio that fits what you see on tape, and they’re getting almost 18 points per game off opponent giveaways. Devin Askew has been the tone-setter at 16.4 points per game on 49.5% shooting and 47.5% from three, while Bryce Lindsay and Matt Hodge sit in double figures and stretch the floor around him. Duke Brennan quietly gives them 10.6 points and 12.0 rebounds on 58.1% from the field, the kind of interior production that lets Nova stay big without sacrificing spacing. The Michigan loss was a stress test: when they got smashed 46-10 in paint points and out-rebounded 53-33, the whole thing collapsed, but that’s a uniquely overwhelming frontcourt they’re not seeing here.

Pitt is closer to average across the board, but the shape is annoying to play against. The Panthers sit at 71.8 points scored and 69.3 allowed, a +2.5 margin that says “coin-flip team” more than disaster, and they rebound 36.3 times a game while allowing 32.3. That’s a real four-rebound swing, and it’s how they stay attached when the offense goes choppy. Offensively they’re more middle lane than fast break: 12.6 assists per game, an assist-to-turnover ratio just over 1.0, and efficiency numbers that put them in the 300s nationally on offense but inside the top 100 on defense. Cam Corhen is the interior anchor at 14.0 points and 9.1 rebounds on 54.3% shooting, giving them a genuine post scorer. Brandin Cummings brings 13.7 points a night with 38.9% from three and 86.7% at the line, while Barry Dunning and Damarco Minor both live around 11 points with solid rebounding and 3-point clips in the mid-30s to low-40s. The volatility is all over the schedule: they beat Ohio State with a slowed-down, whistle-heavy game, then turned around and let Hofstra hang 80 while getting outscored 38-16 in the paint. Dishon Jackson being medically disqualified for the season is a real loss of bulk, so Corhen and the other bigs are carrying almost all the interior duty.

Pitt vs. Villanova pick, best bet

From a pure numbers angle, you can see why the market pushed this toward double digits. Villanova has the better offense by almost nine points per game, the better shooting profile and actually owns the larger rebounding margin at +7.1 compared with Pitt’s +4.0. If Nova hits its baseline of 10.8 made threes, keeps turnovers near those 11.0 per game and forces Pitt into another low-assist, high-dribble game, the favorite’s path is clean: grind possession count down, win the glass, bury you from the arc. The counter is exactly where our “big chalk vs live dog” adjustment has lived. Pitt’s 36.3 rebounds per game, competent 3-point shooting from multiple guards and a free-throw attack that showed up against Ohio State all check the nuisance boxes. In a game with a mid-130s total, it doesn’t take much for a team with that profile to sit comfortably inside +10.5: a small edge on the glass, a few extra trips for Cummings at the stripe and one Nova drought.

I still think Villanova wins more often and probably closer to that 80.6-68.9 season-long margin than not, but December has been clear about how fragile big covers are when the dog can rebound and make just enough open threes. The Wildcats’ Michigan no-show underscored what happens when they stop winning the paint and have to live entirely off jumpers, and Pitt has enough size to at least make that a live script. With the way this total and tempo line up, a full best-case cover feels more like the upper tail than the middle.

Give me Pittsburgh +10.5, with a potential score of Villanova 74, Pittsburgh 67.

Best bet: Pittsburgh +10.5 (-110) at Villanova
