NFL Best Bets: Eagles at Chargers Best Prop Bets on Week 14 Monday Night Football

Updated:

By: Sean Barnard

The Week 14 NFL slate will conclude with a Monday Night Football matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Chargers.

Both of these teams enter with an 8-4 record on the season. The Eagles sit in the top spot in the NFC East, but they have lost back-to-back games leading into this matchup and are attempting to fight off the surging Dallas Cowboys on their tails. The Chargers would enter the playoffs through a Wild Card seed in the AFC if the season ended today, but the race is still competitive. Justin Herbert suffered a broken bone in his left hand last week, which required surgery, but he is still expected to give it a go tonight.

Looking at the odds for the matchup, the Eagles enter as 2.5-point favorites and hold -130 odds on the Moneyline on DraftKings Sportsbook. The Chargers hold +110 odds of getting the outright victory, with the game total set at 41.5 points.

There are plenty of ways to get involved in the action beyond just backing a side. This article will look at my three favorite prop bets on DraftKings Sportsbook for the Week 14 Monday Night Football matchup between the Eagles and Chargers.

Eagles at Chargers Best Prop Bets

Jalen Hurts Over 193.5 Passing Yards (-112)

It has been a more turbulent year than the Eagles’ 8-4 record indicates, or than you would expect from the reigning Super Bowl champions. Philadelphia established a clear run-first identity last season on the back of strong offensive line play and historic production from Saquon Barkley. None of this has taken shape in the same way this year. Barkley is averaging just 61.7 rushing yards per game, which is less than half of what he averaged last year, and the Eagles are dealing with multiple injuries to the offensive line.

This has put more responsibility on Jalen Hurts, with a more pass-first approach required within the offense’s flow. So far this season, he is completing 66.1% of his pass attempts for 2,514 passing yards, 19 touchdowns and just two interceptions. Hurts has also been less willing as a rusher himself this year, with his 7.0 rush attempts and 27.4 average rushing yards per game both marking career-lows as a starter. This has positively reflected in his passing production, with the Super Bowl MVP averaging 209.5 passing yards per game. Hurts has thrown for over 193.5 passing yards in six of the 12 games this season, including back-to-back games leading into this matchup.

The Chargers have a strong defense that has allowed the second-fewest passing yards and passing touchdowns on the season. But the Eagles have weapons all over the field, and Hurts has been playing with a high level of confidence. He has 230 and 289 passing yards over the past two weeks and has thrown for as many as 326 in a game this season. Count on the Eagles to continue to lean on Hurts’ arm in this matchup and for him to serve as the engine of the offense once again. The 193.5-passing yard line is completely manageable even with a strong defense, and expect Hurts to cruise past this for the third straight week.

Jaelan Phillips to Record 1+ Sack (+123)

The Philadelphia Eagles have just 24 total sacks on the season, which is tied for the sixth-fewest in the league. This outlook took another hit this week with Jalen Carter undergoing a procedure to deal with an issue in both shoulders. Luckily, they have a great chance to get on track against a Chargers offensive line that has failed to protect Justin Herbert all season, and really his entire career. Herbert is being sacked an average of 3.3 times per game this season, which ranks 27th in the league.

Philadelphia attempted to help solve this pass-rush issue midseason by talking Brandon Graham out of retirement and trading for Jaelan Phillips from the Miami Dolphins. Phillips played under Eagles DC Vic Fangio in Miami and has been quite open about how thrilled he is to be reunited with him in a winning situation. Phillips has 4.0 sacks on the season, with 1.0 of these coming in an Eagles uniform. Tonight will mark his fifth game with the Eagles.

Phillips is seeing plenty of opportunities on the field, recording 76.3% of the snaps or greater in each game with the Eagles. While he has just one sack, the 26-year-old has tallied five quarterback hits. The Eagles need him to make some plays tonight, with their depth at the defensive line a bit depleted. With a vulnerable offensive line in front of him and plenty of snaps on the table, look for Phillips to notch his second sack of his Eagles career.

Keenan Allen Anytime Touchdown (+350)

It is fair to have some concerns about the outlook of Justin Herbert. He is one week removed from surgery on his non-throwing hand and it is admirable for him to even be battling through it. But if he is out there, the Chargers will be leaning on him at a high rate. With the issue on his non-throwing hand, Herbert may logistically have more issues handing the ball off than just letting it rip through the air.

Keenan Allen made his return to the Chargers organization and has picked up right where he left off. The six-time Pro Bowler has pulled in 60 receptions for 622 receiving yards and four touchdowns so far this year. He leads the team in targets-per-route-run and is tied for a team-high nine end-zone targets. Allen has been targeted 13 times in the red zone, which leads the Chargers and ranks 17th in the league. He has cooled off after a hot start to the season in which he scored a touchdown in each of the first three games. But Allen has still been targeted at least five times in every game this season.

The trust Herbert has in Allen is clear, so expect this to come into play around the end zone. Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston will also command plenty of attention, and expect all three to play a role tonight. Expect Allen’s experience to come into play against a pretty young Eagles secondary and for him to find the end zone again tonight. Getting +350 odds for Allen is solid value, and look for the veteran to break his five-week touchdown drought.
