De’Von Achane suffered a rib injury in the second quarter of Week 14’s game against the New York Jets. He’s now headed to the locker room.
With him out, the backfield should shift to a more traditional split between Ollie Gordon and Jaylen Wright. Gordon likely handles most of the early-down work and short-yardage situations; he has the size and running style to work between the tackles, take on goal-line carries, and stay on the field in obvious passing situations because of his pass protection.
Wright profiles more as the change-of-pace option, bringing speed to the edge, draws, screens and designed touches in space rather than true workhorse volume. In practical terms, if Achane stays out, Gordon becomes the favorite for carries inside the 10 and most “grind it out” drives, while Wright mixes in for explosive-play chances and passing-game usage when Miami wants to keep linebackers honest.
