Captain’s Pick
Nico Collins ($14,700 CP): This isn’t a sexy slate. Houston and Kansas City are going to grind it out in Arrowhead, and everyone knows it. The over/under sits at 41.5, and both defenses have been suffocating. That’s actually the case for Collins. When games get tight and offenses sputter, the ball finds the alpha. Collins has seen 10-plus targets in five of his last six games. He leads Houston in target share, air yards share, and fantasy points per game. C.J. Stroud is going to need someone to bail him out against a defense that hasn’t allowed a QB1 scorer all season. Collins is that guy. The Chiefs haven’t exactly been shutting down WR1s lately, either. In a game where touchdowns will be scarce, you want the receiver who’s going to see the volume regardless of the game script. Collins is the obvious captain, so he’s the obvious captain.
UTIL Plays
Rashee Rice ($11,000): Rice is the safest play on the slate. That’s not an opinion. He’s averaging 22.27 fantasy points per game and has topped 23 points in four of his last six contests. The 26% target share tells the story. Mahomes trusts Rice, and Rice rewards the trust. He works the slot on 43% of his routes, which means he avoids the Texans’ elite outside corners. Houston’s defense is legit — they lead the league in EPA against the pass — but someone has to catch the ball in Kansas City. Rice is that someone. He went 8/92/2 last week. Lock him in and move on.
Texans D/ST ($3,600): This is the cheat code. Houston’s defense made Josh Allen look foolish a few weeks ago — eight sacks, three turnovers. They’ve recorded at least two sacks in 9 games and forced a turnover in all but 2. Kansas City’s offensive line is banged up, with three starters dealing with injuries. The Texans lead the league in opponent EPA. At $3,600, you’re essentially getting a free roster spot that could easily return 10-plus points. In a low-scoring grind, defense wins championships and DFS contests.
Dalton Schultz ($5,400): Tight ends are always in play on Showdown slates. They’re cheaper than receivers and score touchdowns. That’s the formula. Schultz has hit double-digit fantasy points in four of his last five games and sits second on the team in target share. He’s seen eight-plus targets in five of seven games. Houston is going to need to throw to keep pace, and Schultz is Stroud’s security blanket. The price is right, and the volume is there. Sometimes that’s all you need.
Fade
Xavier Worthy ($6,600): Worthy is a trap. The speed is electric. The usage isn’t. He’s been held under 12 fantasy points in eight straight games. Eight. That’s not a slump — that’s a trend. Tonight, he faces the NFL’s best defense, a unit that allows just 26 fantasy points per game to receivers. Worthy lines up outside, which means he’s seeing Houston’s elite corners all night. The big-play potential exists, but so does a three-catch, 31-yard dud. At $6,600, you’re paying for upside that hasn’t materialized since September. Let someone else chase the home run.
The Outcome
Kansas City is struggling, but Arrowhead at night is a different animal. The Chiefs have lost three of four, and that’s exactly when you expect Mahomes to remind everyone who he is. Houston’s defense keeps it close, but close isn’t enough on the road in December.
