South Florida Bulls vs. Utah State Aggies prediction, pick for NCAAM on Wednesday 12/4/25

Utah State arrives unbeaten, seven wins deep, trying to prove that the Mountain West bully travels. South Florida plays like a team still processing an emotional offseason, leaning into pace and threes instead of caution. The Yuengling Center should be loud, fast and willing to live with mistakes. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for tonight’s college basketball game between the South Florida Bulls and the Utah State Aggies.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

USF vs. Utah State prediction, preview

Utah State’s profile is cleaner almost everywhere you look. The Aggies are scoring 88.9 points per game on 53% from the floor, with a 58.3% effective field-goal rate and 60.7% on twos. They share it, too, posting 20 assists a night against roughly 12 turnovers, and they sit top-five nationally in steal rate themselves. That combination of ball movement and ball pressure has already buried Tulane and Davidson and survived an overtime scare from Montana State. The frontcourt is efficient, with Garry Clark finishing 67% inside and Karson Templin near 59%, while MJ Collins Jr. hovers north of 50% from three. When their spacing is right, every possession looks like a high-percentage cut, post touch or rhythm three.

South Florida lives on volume and chaos instead of purity. The Bulls pour in 91.4 points a game but shoot only about 44% from the field and 31% from three, with a heavy share of their attempts coming from behind the arc. They rank 12th nationally in adjusted tempo, pushing early clock threes and forcing whistles to stay afloat. On the other end they give up 82.5 points, 45.5% overall and 37% from deep, numbers that already cracked against George Washington, Oklahoma State and Colorado State. Utah State’s shooting map sits directly on those soft spots: 36.2% from three, top-25 nationally in two-point accuracy, and a free-throw rate that pulls 0.427 trips per shot attempt. If USF keeps surrendering clean feet-set looks and fouls jump shooters, the Aggies’ efficiency advantage gets magnified, not muted, by the pace.

Utah State vs. USF pick, best bet

There is a real countercase. South Florida’s schedule has been heavier, their athletes are live, and their home gym can heat up quickly. C.J. Brown handles a big creation load, and Izaiyah Nelson’s length can bother smaller frontcourts when officials let contact go. If the Bulls turn this into a whistle festival, live at the line and finally hit a hot three-point night, Utah State can absolutely get dragged into a 40-minute race and lose. The Aggies also haven’t faced many true road shocks yet, so an early turnover burst or foul trouble for Clark would tighten things.

I still trust Utah State’s structure more than USF’s volatility. The Aggies defend with real discipline, allowing only 67.3 points per game and 39% shooting while owning about a seven-rebound edge on average. Their eFG% edge over USF sits around six percentage points, and South Florida’s opponents already post a 1.22 shooting efficiency. Utah State has multiple ballhandlers to handle pressure, a point guard in Drake Allen who rarely panics, and enough depth that one Bull can’t tilt the game alone. When things slow late, I trust the Aggies’ half-court sets and interior touches far more than USF’s contested step-backs.

The market is pricing this close to a coin flip, with Utah State hovering around a tiny favorite. That feels light for a team that is 7–0, top-40 in both adjusted offense and defense, against a 4–4 opponent that bleeds efficiency on the back line. I expect South Florida to get their runs, especially off live-ball turnovers, but Utah State should win the possession-by-possession math over forty minutes. My script has the Aggies matching tempo, winning the glass, and then separating late with better shot quality and free throws.

Best bet: Utah State (-110) at USF
