Is Justin Herbert playing on Monday Night Football vs. the Eagles in Week 14?

Tough break, literally and figuratively, for the Los Angeles Chargers last week. They picked up an important win to start the stretch run by taking down the Las Vegas Raiders, but it came with a cost as franchise quarterback Justin Herbert suffered a fracture in his non-throwing hand.

Will this put his start against the Eagles on Monday Night Football in jeopardy?

Analysis

The lucky stroke for the Chargers is that the break came in the quarterback’s non-throwing hand. It goes without saying that a break in Herbert’s throwing hand would put his entire season in jeopardy. But with the right wrapping and padding, an injury to the other one can be managed, especially by a quarterback who doesn’t run all that often and expose himself to extra hits.

With a quick surgery under his belt to stabilize the fracture with a plate and screws, it seems everyone in the building is feeling confident that this is a minor bump in the road.

Having an extra day of rest going into Monday Night Football is a big factor here. Even so, Herbert sounds very optimistic about his chances. Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh has echoed the same sentiment. It looks like all systems go for Monday.

How the injury affects him is anyone’s guess. But Justin Herbert will be out there and could very well post impressive fantasy numbers thanks to a collection of excellent pass catchers.
