Jeff’s King of the Court Pick for Tuesday, December 2: Deni Avdija
Through six King of the Court rounds, I have successfully predicted the winning player four times. Thankfully for all of the guys suiting up Tuesday night, three-time 2025 winner Luka Doncic will not be eligible, giving someone else a shot.
With Doncic, Nikola Jokic and Giannis Antetokounmpo all sitting Tuesday, the field is officially wide open. There are still plenty of strong contenders, such as Tyrese Maxey, who just dropped 44 points, nine rebounds and seven assists against the Hawks. SGA is always capable, but with Jalen Williams back in the equation it seems less likely. Anthony Edwards, Jaylen Brown and Steph Curry will surely rack up the points, but could be lacking in the rebounds and assists department.
Enter: Deni Avdija.
The young wing has been a revelation for the Blazers this year, averaging an impressive 25.8 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game. Lately, he’s taken his game to an even higher level, racking up 37, eight and six against San Antonio and then a monstrous 31 points, 19 rebounds and 10 assists against OKC. Avdija’s usage rate has eclipsed 29% in three of Portland’s last four games as he establishes himself as the undisputed top playmaker. I expect that to continue on Tuesday, with the KOTC crown firmly within reach.
