Logan turns this into more than another Mountain West matinee. Boise State shows up at 7–4, still circling a path to the title game and trying to protect a decade of dominance in this matchup. Utah State walks in 6–5, bowl bid already secured, but chasing a perfect home season and one last statement before they leave the league. Maverik Stadium has been a fortress at 5–0, seven straight wins on that field, and a national CBS window turns the place into a showcase. Boise leads the series 24–5 and has won nine straight; Aggie fans will treat that record like a personal insult all afternoon. Below is my prediction for CFB Week 13’s football game between the Utah State Aggies and the Boise State Broncos.
Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.
Utah State vs. Boise State prediction, preview
With Boise holding the ball, this looks like a classic Broncos template built on backs and balance. They average 31.4 points, and the ground room is real with Dylan Riley at 896 rushing yards and nine scores and Sire Gaines and Malik Sherrod combining for more than 1,000 and 11 touchdowns of their own. Maddux Madsen sits just shy of 2,000 passing yards with 15 touchdowns and seven interceptions, 59.8% completions, plus a little designed run game. Utah State’s defense gives up 28.5 points per game, around 175 rushing yards at 4.8 per carry, and sits in that 100-plus range nationally in opponent scoring. Boise can absolutely lean on inside zone and duo, force the Aggies to spin a safety down, then hit Chris Marshall and the committee on play-action shots. On paper, that profile supports why the number opened with Boise as the road favorite.
Flip it and Utah State’s offense is the most dangerous unit on their sideline and maybe in the whole building. They score 32.5 per game and sit around 166.5 rushing yards at 4.7 per carry, with Bryson Barnes basically functioning as two players. He has 2,502 passing yards, 18 touchdowns, four interceptions on 62.2% completions and another 644 rushing yards with eight rushing touchdowns. Miles Davis adds 689 rushing yards at 5.8 per carry plus 24 catches and three receiving scores, and the Pegan–Boyd duo has combined for over 1,500 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. Boise allows 23.1 points, which is solid, but this is a real test of gap discipline and edge tackling in altitude against a quarterback who can punish every light box. Utah State just walked into Fresno and won 28–17 to clinch a bowl, and they have yet to lose under the Logan lights this season.
Boise State vs. Utah State pick, best bet
The intangible stack leans Aggies for me. Boise absolutely has urgency with the title picture still hanging, but Utah State’s stakes are cleaner emotionally: perfect home season, last Mountain West home game, and a chance to bloody a rival that leads the series 24–5 with nine straight wins. Against the number, the Aggies have been the sharper read all year at 9–2 ATS, while Boise’s 7-3-1 mark now comes with a small tax as the market leans into the “old Broncos” narrative. Logan’s altitude and crowd matter, too; Boise is the brand name, but Utah State owns the environment. In a game that already projects in the high 20s for both, that kind of edge often shows up when the fourth quarter turns into a race.
So I want the home dog, even at a short number. I expect Riley and the Boise backs to get theirs, but I also expect Barnes and Davis to answer with sustained drives and explosives against a defense that still yields chunk plays. Utah State’s defense will bend, yet their aggressive offense and home streak keep them trading scores rather than chasing hopelessly. With so many realistic scripts landing on a field goal either way, I would rather hold the plus than lay road chalk into that atmosphere.
Give me Utah State +1.5, with a lean to the over, and the Aggies finally snapping Boise’s streak in Logan. Utah State 34, Boise State 31.
Best bet: Utah State +1.5 (-105) vs. Boise State
