San Diego State Aztecs vs. San Jose State Spartans prediction, pick for CFB Week 13 on Saturday 11/22/25

San Jose State walks into San Diego with fresh bruises and fresh bosses on defense after Nevada dropped 55 and cost two coordinators their jobs. San Diego State comes home at eight and two with a title-game lane right in front of them and a defense people are already calling one of the best Aztec units of the decade. This number sits at Aztecs -11.5 with a mid-50s total because the matchup is all about whether San Jose’s volume passing can survive four quarters against that front and that secondary. Below is my prediction for CFB Week 13’s football game between the San Diego State Aztecs and the San Jose State Spartans.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

SDSU vs. SJSU prediction, preview

Quarterback Walker Eget is the whole shape of San Jose State’s offense: 3,015 passing yards, 17 touchdowns, eight interceptions, and a pass rate near 64% of snaps, third nationally in yardage. The Spartans sit at 6.3 yards per play and 0.333 points per play with a 42.4% third-down rate, so the raw efficiency looks bowl-quality until you reach the -1.0 turnover margin and 2.1 giveaways per game. Receiver Danny Scudero has true WR1 usage with 72 catches for 1,155 yards and 10 scores, and running back Steve Chavez-Soto quietly averages a little over 5.0 yards per carry with seven touchdowns, but the structure still leans bombs away. San Diego State allows only 12.5 points per game and 282.1 yards, giving up 4.2 yards per snap, just 106.9 rushing yards, and 175.2 passing yards at 5.6 yards per attempt with opponents scoring on only 70% of red-zone trips. Three shutouts, including 23–0 at Fresno, say Eget’s margin for error is paper thin when his last two outings already produced five picks.

On the other side the math is simple and mean. The Aztecs run the ball on about 65% of snaps, sit at 337.2 yards per game and 5.4 yards per play, and get 4.6 yards per carry with 185.2 rushing yards a night. Running back Lucky Sutton has 1,048 rushing yards on 197 carries with eight touchdowns, coming off 150 yards against Boise while Christian Washington added 98 more as San Diego State piled 277 on the ground. Quarterback Jayden Denegal sits at 1,564 passing yards with eight touchdowns and seven interceptions, but he adds red-zone rushing production that matters when your opponent allows 32.9 points, 424.4 yards, 6.2 yards per play, and 0.477 points per play. San Jose State gives up 147.6 rushing yards and 4.0 yards per carry, plus a catastrophic 276.9 passing yards at 9.0 yards per attempt, which means even a low-volume passer like Denegal can hit explosives once Sutton has dragged safeties downhill.

SJSU vs. SDSU pick, best bet

San Jose State still averages 24.0 points with that top-five passing yardage, and coordinator changes sometimes buy one desperate, unified performance where the tackling sharpens and busted coverages vanish. San Diego State’s offense has a real wart on third down at 28.4% conversion, which can stall drives long enough for Eget and Scudero to steal possessions if Sutton ever gets bottled on early downs. Snapdragon is not an overwhelming home-field historically, and double digits with a live passing game plus backdoor script are rarely trivial. If San Jose State protects the ball for the first time in weeks, they can drag this closer to a one-score game than their record suggests.

I still end up on the Aztecs and the chalk because every structural lever leans their way. They are eight and two against the spread with a massive gap between their 12.5 points allowed and San Jose State’s 32-plus, and they own edges in yards per play, points per play, third-down defense, and red-zone efficiency on both sides. San Jose State rides an extreme pass rate into one of the country’s best secondaries while carrying one of the country’s worst turnover margins and a defense that just surrendered 55 with a 99-yard kick-return dagger. San Diego State should lean into Sutton and that 65% run rate, force Eget to chase long fields, and let a freshened pass rush hunt when obvious passing downs arrive. I expect the Aztecs to build a steady lead through body blows rather than fireworks and close it without drama.

Give me San Diego State -11.5 with a final score around San Diego State 31, San Jose State 13.

Best bet: San Diego State -11.5 (-110) vs. San Jose State
