NC State Wolfpack vs. Florida State Seminoles prediction, pick for CFB Week 13 on Friday 11/21/25

November in Raleigh doesn’t offer soft landings, only definitive verdicts. Florida State walks into Carter–Finley under harsh lights and older scars, still chasing a real road win while NC State guards its backyard and bowl future with both hands. Two .500 seasons meet in a stadium that remembers every collapse and upset, and somebody’s year is about to get labeled. Below is my prediction for CFB Week 13’s football game between the NC State Wolfpack and the Florida State Seminoles.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

NC State vs. Florida State prediction, preview

On paper, Florida State carries the cleaner identity. They average 36.4 points per game, nearly 490 yards, and 6.3 yards per snap — national contender numbers. Gus Malzahn turned last year’s 4.4 yards per play into 6.8 by fully unleashing Thomas Castellanos as a dual threat. He brings over 2,300 passing yards, 100 rushing attempts, and a frame built for contact. The run game is the fulcrum: 213.1 rushing yards a night, four backs over 300, and constant quarterback involvement. Tempo adds pressure, with Florida State snapping it every 23.7 seconds, one of the 15 fastest paces nationally. That profile walks into a defense allowing 440 yards, 6.6 yards per play, and 34 points per game. NC State gives up about nine explosives a night, mirroring what their offense creates, and bleeds third downs at 47.6%. When you pair that with Florida State’s 49.6% conversion rate, you get a mismatch on the money downs.

NC State is not helpless; the offense averages 29.9 points and 409 yards with a real passing ceiling. They sit around 262 passing yards and 147 rushing yards, but the splits scream volatility. In wins they pour in 39.4 points; in losses that crashes to 20.4. CJ Bailey has cleared 2,500 passing yards and sometimes ends up their leading rusher when structure breaks. That says a lot about a run game leaning on Hollywood Smothers, who has volume but arrives banged up. Their calling card is finish; they cash 92.6% of red-zone trips and convert about 42% on third down. Florida State’s defense is not suffocating, yet 321 yards allowed, top-25 nationally, and real pressure travel anywhere. They pressure 38.3% of dropbacks, generate about 2.7 sacks per game, and sit 13th in marginal explosiveness allowed. There are 13 takeaways, 11 interceptions, and horrible fumble luck hinting there is still upside baked into those numbers.

Florida State vs. NC State pick, best bet

NC State has taken five of the last seven in Raleigh, and Florida State hasn’t won here since 2016. Zoom out further and they haven’t celebrated any road win since 2023, which is exactly why the market hesitates. A 59.5 total also leans toward chaos; in a game this high-scoring, +6.5 buys a lot of backdoor. NC State’s offense can feed that chaos with about nine explosives a night and a 92.6% red-zone conversion clip if CJ Bailey hits his shots and Hollywood Smothers plus Justin Joly are truly functional. We have also seen Thomas Castellanos wobble when forced north of thirty attempts, especially if early quarterback runs get stuffed and he has to live in obvious passing downs. If that script returns, the Wolfpack plus the points is live and the game tilts into full-variance territory rather than clean FSU separation.

I still land on Florida State because the down-to-down math refuses to match that NC State optimism. The Seminoles live at 6.3 yards per snap with a 49.6% third-down rate; the Wolfpack allow 6.6 per snap and 47.6% conversions while giving up roughly the same 80 explosives they’ve created. Florida State’s ground game and quarterback legs should stay central, not ornamental, with tempo and read concepts attacking a front already living in that 440-yard neighborhood. Duce Robinson works underneath as the chain answer while Micahi Danzy threatens the same secondary that keeps getting hit over the top. Defensively, Florida State can lean into a top-tier pressure rate, trust improved run fits, and force Bailey into more known passing downs than he wants. NC State will land some shots and probably punch in red-zone drives, but the sustained efficiency edge still leans Seminoles.

I’ll lay the 6.5 with Florida State and project a breakthrough road win, Florida State 38, NC State 27.

Best bet: Florida State -6.5 at NC State
