Wake Forest Demon Deacons vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders prediction, pick for NCAAM on Thursday 11/20/25

The Baha Mar Convention Center doesn’t feel like a campus gym tonight; it feels like a November proving ground with hotel lighting and broadcast polish. Texas Tech arrives ranked fifteenth, lugging last year’s Elite Eight expectation and a roster built to live deep into March again. Wake Forest crosses the water with a nothing-to-lose resume bid after pushing Michigan to overtime and blitzing UMass Lowell. Both sit three and one with only Big Ten scars on the sheet, and the winner probably gets Memphis or top-ranked Purdue tomorrow. This is where early hype either hardens or cracks.Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for tonight’s college basketball game between the Wake Forest Demon Deacons and the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Texas Tech vs. Wake Forest prediction, preview

I start with Tech because the math is built to survive variance. They’re scoring 88.3 points per game with 17.8 assists and only 10 turnovers, hammering 41.5 rebounds and 16 offensive boards. They’ve hit 12 threes a night at 38.1%, including a 17-make opener and double-digit bombs in three of four. JT Toppin is living at 24.3 points, 11.7 rebounds and three assists on 55.6% shooting, with that 35-and-11 showcase at Illinois already on film. Christian Anderson is giving 19.5 and nine assists, leading the country in total dimes while keeping Tech’s turnover number low despite constant pace. Donovan Atwell adds 15.3 points and 4.5 made threes at 48.6%, the gravity piece that opens all the high-low and short-roll stuff. When you pair that with a defense allowing 70.3 points on 41.7% shooting and still capping opponent threes, you get a favorite that can cash tickets with either clean shooting or brute rebounding.

Wake’s resistance has teeth, not just vibes. They’re at 90.5 points per game with 17.8 assists, 46 boards and a monstrous 15.7 offensive rebounds. They’ve held opponents to 23.1% from three while racking up 12.5 steals per night, fifty steals in four games and three double-digit-steal outings. Juke Harris has opened as a real alpha, posting 21.8 points and seven boards with enough shot-making to hang punch-for-punch with Toppin on the marquee. Tre’Von Spillers adds 16.3 and 6.5 as a hyper-efficient finisher, and Mekhi Mason brings 12.5 and 5.5 as the veteran wing glue. When Nate Calmese and Omaha Biliew join the party, Wake can throw waves of length at ball-handlers and turn loose catches into four-point swings. That’s how you hang 109 with five guys in double figures and a 61-point second half, even adjusting for opponent.

Wake Forest vs. Texas Tech pick, best bet

If you want the Wake +9.5 case, it starts right there. Neutral floors can muddy shooting, and Wake’s combination of steals and offensive glass is tailor-made to drag a favorite into a dogfight. KenPom essentially makes this around an eight-and-a-half to nine-point spread on a neutral, so the number itself isn’t some screaming Tech discount. Wake’s adjusted efficiency sits in legitimate top-fifty territory, with a top-30 defense and a tempo that pushes into the mid-seventies. In a game that likely sees more possessions than our usual ranked-versus-middle game, raw variance leans toward the underdog. If Harris stays out of foul trouble, Spillers competes on the glass and those guards manufacture just enough havoc, there’s a very real script where Wake loses by seven and tickets still cash.

Where I pull back toward Tech is under the hood. Wake’s defense is elite at the arc so far, but inside they’re allowing twos to fall at a rate that looks a lot more human. That’s exactly where Toppin and LeJuan Watts want to live, and where Bamgboye’s rim-running adds extra strain. Tech is top-10 nationally in offensive efficiency and top-25 on defense, a balance that lets them win track meets and half-court slogs without changing who they are. Wake, by contrast, leans heavily on Harris to manufacture bail-out scoring while the rest of the backcourt oscillates between chaos and competence. That’s the phrase I keep coming back to: this still leans Tech, because Wake’s rim protection and non-Harris guard play are real red flags when you’re grabbing points.

So I treat the market like this: Texas Tech -9.5 with a total in the 160 range is basically fair to slightly rich, not a discount you pounce on blind. The KenPom gap supports something close to this; the stylistic clash and Wake’s steal rate push me away from a max-confident Tech stance.

But if I have to plant a flag, I’d rather lay the points with the more stable engine. Tech’s spacing, low turnover rate and three-level star in Toppin give them multiple paths to winning this by double digits, especially if Wake’s three defense regresses toward normal against the best shooting team they’ve seen. I’m grading this as a light lean, not a hammer, but I’m still landing on the favorite.

Laying the points on the Red Raiders and pinching my nose. Final score: Texas Tech 84, Wake Forest 74.

Best bet: Texas Tech -9.5 (-110) vs. Wake Forest
