Just four games are scheduled to tip off on Thursday. In addition, a slew of big names are sidelined with injuries. That includes Kawhi Leonard, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Ja Morant, Victor Wembanyama and Trae Young. With so few stars in action, it’s anyone’s guess as to who will step up.
Still, a lack of star power could prove advantageous for savvy fantasy basketball managers. Opportunity has opened up for several role players, which means there’s value to be found. With that being said, finding a diamond in the rough is easier said than done. Who should you target this evening? Here are two players worth consideration in DFS and season-long fantasy basketball formats.

SG/SF Gary Trent Jr., Milwaukee Bucks vs. PHI ($4,900)
Giannis Antetokounmpo (groin) is out, opening up more minutes and touches for his Bucks teammates. When the Greek Freak left Monday’s game vs. Cleveland early, Gary Trent Jr. received 31 minutes of playing time. A similar workload tonight should be expected; head coach Doc Rivers relies heavily on veterans. Granted, GTJ hasn’t been great this season. Through 15 games, he’s averaging 10.2 points on mediocre 40/37/72 shooting splits.
Mediocre season or not, opportunity is everything in the NBA. Trent Jr. has reached double-digit points in all four of his games with 30+ minutes played. On paper, the 76ers could present some problems on defense. However, Philadelphia will likely be without both Kelly Oubre (knee) and Paul George (knee), the team’s two best wing defenders. Outside of Ryan Rollins and Myles Turner, Milwaukee doesn’t have many go-to options on offense. Trent Jr. is in a prime spot to produce for a squad in need of buckets.
PG/SG Cam Spencer, Memphis Grizzlies vs. SAC ($4,500)
Speaking of banged-up teams, the Grizzlies will be without Ja Morant (calf) and Jaren Jackson Jr. (ankle). That’s along with several other key role players. On such a short-handed Memphis squad, some lesser-known names are in line for more minutes. That includes former UConn star Cam Spencer. The 25-year-old has shown promise this season, primarily as a shooter. Through 15 appearances, he’s averaging 9.1 points, 2.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists while producing 44/45/89 shooting splits.
As previously mentioned, there’s ample opportunity for Memphis’ bench tonight. With Morant injured, this back court is in need of play makers and shooters. It helps that Thursday’s game takes place against one of the NBA’s worst defensive units. The Kings have surrendered the second-most fantasy points per game to shooting guards. In addition, Sacramento has coughed up the third-most points per game to opponents (123.6). Against a lackluster defense, Spencer should find a way to do some damage tonight.
