Taking Josh Allen’s under after his performance last week may seem absurd, but let me explain.
Allen had his worst performance of an MVP season in 2024 against Houston, going 9-of-30 for 131 yards in the Week 5 loss. Houston’s defense has improved since then, ranking third in the NFL this season against the pass. The Texans allow an average of 171 yards per game through the air, well below this total.
Josh Allen is much better than the average NFL quarterback, but between his recent history against this defense and what Houston have been doing on that side of the ball all season, this 225.5 number seems a stretch too far. Buffalo could definitely come out of this one victorious, but I don’t think it will be due to Josh Allen throwing the ball all over the yard. He has gone under this total in five of 10 games this season.
Only one quarterback has gone over this total all season against Houston, and that was MVP favorite Matthew Stafford in Week 1 as he went 21-of-29 for 245 yards.
Expect Allen to struggle in the passing game on Thursday.
