San Antonio Spurs’ star Victor Wembanyama has been ruled out of today’s matchup with the Sacramento Kings due to a calf injury.
This will make the first game that Wembanyama has missed this season. The former Rookie of the Year was previously listed as questionable, but downgraded to out leading up to the game.
Availability will always be a concern for the Frenchman given his unique frame and style of play. This is especially the case following Wembanyama being shut down for the year last season due to a blood clot issues. It should, however, be acknowledged he still suited up for 46 games last year and played in 71 his rookie year.
Across the opening 12 games this season, Wembanyama is averaging 26.2 points, 12.9 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and an NBA-best 3.6 blocks per game. He is fourth in MVP odds at +750 and has climbed to the -300 favorite to win Defensive Player of the Year on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Without Wembanyama, the Spurs still enter this matchup as 6.5-point favorites. The Kings hold +190 odds of pulling off the outright upset on DraftKings Sportsbook with the game total set at 240.5.
