BYU Cougars vs. TCU Horned Frogs prediction, pick for CFB Week 12 on Saturday 11/15/25

LaVell Edwards at night always feels a little cosmic. TCU walks into thin air and blue-and-white noise lugging a season that never quite matched its ambition. BYU sprints out with an eight-win frame, a new Big 12 badge, and senior voices that know this is the kind of game that cements legacy. Sonny Dykes is trying to prove last year’s stumble was a wobble, not a slide; Kalani Sitake is trying to show his program belongs in every playoff bracket graphic that pops on screens west of Denver. Underneath all the scenery, it’s simple: TCU is fighting to stay relevant, BYU is fighting to stay dangerous. Below is my prediction for CFB Week 12’s football game between the Missouri Tigers and the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

BYU vs. TCU prediction, preview

I start with the thing that travels for TCU: Hoover and the passing game. The Frogs are scoring 32.7 points per game on 426.2 yards, 303.4 passing and 122.8 rushing. Garret Hoover has stacked 2,731 passing yards with 23 touchdowns, nine interceptions, and enough trust to keep the gas pressed. His primary wideout in the 88 jersey sits at 808 receiving yards, winning on slot fades, posts, and deep digs. TCU converts right around 50% of its third downs because Dykes lives in tempo, RPOs, and fourth-down conviction. The bill arrives on defense, where they are allowing about 32.0 points per game and far too many 20-plus-yard answers. Against a BYU offense that is built to lean on you for four quarters, that profile invites trouble.

BYU’s shape is more grown-man than carnival. The Cougars are matching 32.6 points per game with 413.6 yards, splitting 201 rushing and 214 passing. Livai Sauni has hammered out 824 rushing yards and five touchdowns, running like a boulder once he clears first contact. Bear Bachmeier adds the calm layer, sitting at 1,881 passing yards with 12 touchdown throws and a single-digit interception count. They only convert about 39% of their third downs, but a +7 turnover margin keeps drives funded and leverage theirs. Defensively, BYU is allowing roughly 24 points per game and winning enough early downs to push opponents into obvious throws.

TCU vs. BYU pick, best bet

There is a real Horned Frog path that is more than message-board bravado. Hoover can absolutely spin it, and BYU’s corners have had stretches where off coverage turns into free access. An early shot play, a tempo drive, and a fourth-down conversion could flip this into a chase game. Altitude also cuts both ways; if BYU settles for field goals, TCU can erase deficits with explosives in eight snaps. Market-wise, this profiles as a short BYU favorite, a field goal, with a total in the mid-50s inviting shootout takes. Public tickets will trust the ranked home side; the sharper question is whether TCU’s explosives justify grabbing the points instead.

I still end up siding with the altitude and the line play. I expect BYU to lean into twelve personnel early, mashing inside zone and duo, then marrying it with hard play-action crossers that force TCU’s linebackers to choose between Sauni’s pads and Bachmeier’s eyes. That style shortens the game, protects a defense that’s good but not suffocating, and makes every TCU mistake feel heavier. On the other side, the Frogs should spread the field, live in four-wide, and spam RPO slants and glance routes to keep Hoover on schedule, but eventually they’ll be in obvious passing downs against a crowd that smells blood. Over four quarters I trust BYU’s ability to stay on schedule and finish drives more than I trust TCU’s defense to stack stops.

My lean lands with BYU laying the short number and nudging toward the over, on a night that looks like BYU 34, TCU 27—Cougars covering at home while Bachmeier and that line write another late-season chapter in the mountains.

Best bet: BYU -3 (-110) vs. TCU
