Week 12 of the college football season has a great slate of Saturday games, headlined by an SEC matchup between the Oklahoma Sooners and the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Ty Simpson 2+ Passing Touchdowns (-122)
Ty Simpson is one of the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy as the season heads down the final stretch. He has been sensational for Alabama this season, putting them in a great position to win the SEC and contend for a national title. Simpson has 21 touchdown passes this season, tied for the ninth-most in the country. Even more impressively, he only has one interception to go along with those 21 touchdowns. Simpson has played nearly perfect football for the Crimson Tide all season, and this game against Oklahoma is his final serious test of the regular season.
Oklahoma has one of the best defensive fronts in the country, leading the nation in defensive rushing success rate. As an offense that already struggles to run the ball, this game will rest squarely on Simpson’s shoulders. Alabama shouldn’t even waste time trying to get a run game going, especially in short-yardage situations. As good as their defense is, Oklahoma has looked vulnerable through the air in its last two games. Tennessee’s Joey Aguilar threw for 393 yards and three touchdowns against the Sooners, and Ole Miss’ Trinidad Chambliss threw for 315 yards. Simpson should be able to hit a couple of deep shots down the field, and Kalen DeBoer will want the ball in his hands in red zone situations. Simpson has thrown for at least two touchdowns in eight of nine games this season and should do so in this game as well.
John Mateer 32+ Rushing Yards (-120)
John Mateer has struggled in SEC play. Mateer was once the Heisman favorite before suffering an injury that kept him out for several weeks. Since returning, he has not looked the same as a passer. Whether it’s the injury, the step up in competition, or a combination of the two, Mateer has not been able to generate much through the air. Last time out against Tennessee, Mateer turned back to his legs after struggling to throw the ball. He carried it 16 times for 80 yards and a score, the most he’s run the ball since Week 2 against Michigan.
Mateer should lean on his legs in this game as well. Alabama has struggled to contain mobile quarterbacks under DC Kane Wommack, getting gashed on the ground by LaNorris Sellers, Diego Pavia, Byrum Brown, Jackson Arnold and others over the past two seasons. Mateer found the winning recipe with his legs against Tennessee, then got a bye week to rest up to give it his all against the Crimson Tide. Oklahoma’s season is on the line here and Mateer will run it as many times as needed to try to generate offense for the Sooners. Alabama ranks 60th in defensive rushing success rate and Mateer should be able to rush for at least 32 yards in this game.
