Kansas State Wildcats vs. California Golden Bears prediction, pick for NCAAM on Thursday 11/13/25

Manhattan hosts a decidedly-not-East-Coast matchup on a Thursday night, and the trends tilt purple. Kansas State’s laying −6.5 and a total posted in the low-160s. The market is telling you pace and scoring; the building supplies edge. Cal arrives unbeaten, but this is a first true road test after three wins in Berkeley. Kansas State hasn’t blinked yet. Tang’s teams are 41–9 (.820) at Bramlage since 2022, and the Bellarmine game drew 8,040—an atmosphere that travels into whistles and runs. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for tonight’s college basketball game between the Kansas State Wildcats and the Cal Golden Bears.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Kansas State vs. Cal prediction, preview

Kansas State’s shot quality and connection have traveled game to game, not just half to half. They’ve opened 28-for-50 from three across two wins (56%), pairing it with 33-for-53 overall and fourteen made threes against Bellarmine, plus another fourteen triples versus UNC Greensboro. That isn’t empty jump-shooting; the Wildcats stacked twenty-four assists and put forty-six points in the paint on Bellarmine, then detonated a 60–30 second half to bury UNCG. The headline name, of course, has been P.J. Haggerty, who’s piled pressure at the stripe with nineteen free-throw attempts through two, including an 11-for-12 night in the 98–71 win. Shot-making, paint touches, and whistle equity usually play cleanly at home. That Bellarmine 62.3% FG night was the highest of the Tang era, and 191 points through two is their best season start since 1991–92; across the pair they’ve averaged 23.0 assists and forced 17.0 turnovers.

Cal’s shape is improved and real, but the profile blinks under bright lights. The Bears are 3–0 with wins over Bakersfield, Wright State, and Cal State Fullerton, all at Haas Pavilion, and the offense has leaned on free throws while the arc has been stubbornly cold. Through three, Cal’s official ledger shows 28.4% from deep, with the latest box listing eleven makes on thirty attempts against Fullerton and five on twenty-one versus Wright State. That can normalize over time, but normalization on the road—inside this building—is a tougher ask. On the season they’re 70-for-86 at the line (81.4%)—23.3 makes per game—with just 10.7 turnovers per night; they’re also allowing only 64.0 points per game while rebounding 41.7 per game to opponents’ 32.0.

Cal vs. Kansas State pick, best bet

There’s a live storyline: Dai Dai Ames faces his former team, this time wearing blue and gold. He just dropped twenty-four on Fullerton and looks comfortable as the lead bucket-getter, but Kansas State understands his game and the staff has two years of touchpoints to lean on. Familiarity trims a sliver off shot value; environment shaves a little more. If K-State can keep Cal’s early free-throw volume from snowballing and keep the Bears in the high-20s from three, the cover path hardens. Ames sits at 21.7 per game through three and hit 6-of-7 from deep Monday; Cal turned it over only eight times in that win while cashing 21 points off takeaways, but K-State’s first two opponents coughed up 34 combined turnovers (17.0 per).

I’m betting Kansas State −6.5. The Wildcats’ distribution and second-half gears outweigh their turnover hiccups, and the home whistle plus paint production protect the floor when the threes cool. Cal’s shooting regression is a season story, not a Thursday night promise—especially away from Haas for the first time. Through two, K-State is at 95.5 points per game on 55.8% shooting with 23.0 assists per game, while allowing 67.5 points—enough cushion for a cover if the arc merely holds average.

Final: Kansas State 84, Cal 74.

Best bet: Kansas State -6.5 (-110) vs. Cal
