The Giants made a long-anticipated move on Monday, firing head coach Brian Daboll. Despite a playoff appearance in 2022, three straight losing seasons forced a change in the Big Apple. New York has started this season with eight losses in ten games. That includes several blown late-game leads.

Now, the biggest question is who will serve as Daboll’s replacement. The Giants are stocked with young talent, including standout quarterback Jaxson Dart. Therefore, expect plenty of interested suitors looking to turn around a flagship NFL franchise. Who will emerge as Big Blue’s next head coach? Let’s break down the odds on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Giants head coach odds

Since firing Tom Coughlin in 2016, New York has employed four different head coaches. Only one, Pat Shurmur, had prior experience at the position. It wouldn’t be a shock to see the Giants prioritize an established name, such as Mike McCarthy (+700). The former Super Bowl winner has found success with the Packers and Cowboys. McCarthy’s time in Dallas wasn’t perfect, but the team wielded an elite offense during most of his tenure. The 62-year-old has a track record of success with Pro Bowl quarterbacks, which could boost Dart’s development.

The Giants could do something different by bringing in a current coordinator. For a more offensively-minded approach, Seattle’s Klint Kubiak (+800) and Washington’s Kliff Kingsbury (+1000) make sense. Both have earned their reputation among the NFL’s best play callers. However, Kubiak has no head coaching experience. Kingsbury does, a largely mediocre _ years with the Cardinals.

On the other side of the ball, old friend Steve Spagnuolo (+900) may be a prime candidate. The former Giants defensive coordinator led the team to success in Super Bowl XLII. Since then, he’s added three more rings to his collection with the Chiefs. Spags seems content with his current role in Kansas City. However, a return to New York could prove too difficult to pass up. Current Colts DC Lou Anarumo (+950) is another intriguing option. The Staten Island native helped the Bengals reach the Super Bowl in 2022.

On any midseason head coach odds, there will be some longshots. A few other coaches worth mentioning include:

  • Lane Kiffin (+1400): The current HC at Ole Miss has expressed frustration at the state of college football. In addition, he’s had no trouble jumping to a new job in the past. Could Dart’s collegiate head coach return to the pros?
  • Jon Gruden (+1400): There’s no doubt that the former Super Bowl winner can coach. However, off-field issues led to Gruden’s departure from the Raiders in 2021. Would an embattled New York franchise take a chance on this offensive innovator?
  • Bill Belichick (+1600): Before he coached the Patriots, Bill Belichick was a terrific defensive coordinator for the Giants. In any interview, it’s clear that the team still holds a special place in his heart. However, a disastrous year with North Carolina has cast doubts over the 73-year-old’s coaching ability. That’s without mentioning any off-field drama involving Jordon Hudson. At this point, it’s difficult to envision New York signing on for a potential media circus.
