New York Jets star Garrett Wilson will miss the next 3-4 weeks with a right knee sprain, as reported by ESPN’s Rich Cimini. The 25-year-old left this week’s 27-20 victory over the Browns and it is now official he will miss time beyond that.
This is the same knee that bothered him earlier this season, stemming from a Grade 1 knee sprain that was suffered in Week 6 against the Broncos. Wilson missed the next two games and then New York had a Week 9 bye. He returned to the field on Sunday, but failed to register a catch on his three targets. Wilson limped to the sideline and was first evaluated under the blue tent before being taken to the locker room and ruled out.
On the positive side, this is not an injury that will require surgery. Even with this week’s victory, the Jets still hold a 2-7 record on the season and are in the race for the top pick in the NFL Draft. Based on the context of the season, and as was further indicated by their decision to trade Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams at the deadline, the Jets will likely be cautious in their approach to his injury recovery.
This season has not lived up to expectations in any area for the former Offensive Player of the Year. Across the seven games he has played, Wilson has tallied 36 receptions for 395 yards and four touchdowns.
