Texas Tech vs. BYU Player Props
J’Koby Williams Anytime TD (-140)
J’Koby Williams has emerged as a real playmaker for Texas Tech. The running game has been Texas Tech’s only real weakness this season, ranking 118th in offensive EPA/rush. Starting running back Cameron Dickey has been inconsistent and has dealt with fumbling issues all season. After losing a fumble for the second straight game against Kansas State, Dickey got pushed aside to give Williams more touches. Williams took advantage of the opportunity, rushing for 135 yards and a score. Williams is more explosive than Dickey, and Texas Tech might turn his way permanently this week.
Both backs are likely to get action against a BYU defense that ranks 80th in defensive EPA/rush. The way to beat BYU is on the ground, and with Behren Morton returning after missing several weeks with an injury, Texas Tech should lean heavily on the running game. J’Koby Williams should split carries at worst, but could be the lead back after last week’s performance. He has scored in back-to-back games and should score again in this massive game.
LJ Martin Anytime TD (-110)
LJ Martin is making his return for BYU this week. BYU’s starting running back got injured against Iowa State and missed most of the game. Luckily, the bye week came at the perfect time, and Martin is expected to be ready now. This Texas Tech defense is elite at every level, and it will be hard for BYU to create plays. It would be infinitely harder without their best playmaker and starting running back. BYU’s best chance of getting points in this game is through Martin making some special plays. Martin has four touchdowns in his past four games, even grabbing a touchdown on one of his five carries before leaving the Iowa State game. Prior to that Iowa State game, he combined for 284 rushing yards against Arizona and Utah. BYU should feed him over and over again, just hoping he can break one for a score.
