On Saturday, the Dallas Mavericks take on the Washington Wizards at 7 p.m. EST. After a rough stretch of games, their star big man Anthony Davis may make his return from a calf injury.
Davis is officially listed questionable to play on the NBA injury report due to a calf strain. Reporting initially suggested he would return today after suffering the injury back on October 29 and missing four consecutive games. It seems he may be on track to do so, but his status is worth keeping an eye on ahead of tip-off.
If Davis does make his return to the floor tonight, he may very well play on a minutes restriction as the Mavericks manage his workload. The 32-year-old is known for a history of soft-tissue injuries, so a cautious approach makes sense for the star.
Across four healthy games this season, Davis averages 25.0 points, 11.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 3.3 combined stocks. He’s been a force when at full strength, but he suffered this calf injury just seven minutes into a game against the Indiana Pacers back in October and hasn’t played since.
The Mavericks have lost all four games without Davis in the lineup, so his presence is sorely needed for a team truly struggling in his absence. The other big men on the roster are also dealing with injury as Daniel Gafford (ankle) is listed questionable while Dereck Lively II (knee) is doubtful for tonight.
