The New York Giants offense has been revitalized since moving from Russell Wilson to rookie Jaxson Dart, and it turned into a fun unit for fantasy football managers to target. However, in Week 8, they lost impressive rookie Cam Skattebo to a season-ending ankle injury. In Week 9, Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Devin Singletary struggled, so which one makes sense in Week 10 and going forward this season?
Let’s take a look at the fantasy football outlook for each option in the Giants’ backfield and if either one can be a usable option at this point in the season.
Tyrone Tracy Jr. fantasy football outlook
Tracy was expected to take over as the primary running back after Skattebo went down. He started the year as the RB1 and actually played 50 snaps in Week 1 to Skattebo’s eight.
Eventually, he lost his role to Skattebo, though, after he went down with a shoulder injury against the Chiefs. With Skattebo’s injury, he looked ready to step back in, but in Week 9, he landed with a thud.
It was actually Dart who led the team in rushing with 56 yards on his eight carries while Tracy played only 44% of snaps and had 18 yards on five carries. In better news for his future value, he added three catches for 19 yards and remains a viable option in the passing game.
Tracy flashed big-play ability earlier this season with a long touchdown run against the Broncos, but he wasn’t able to find any space against the 49ers in Week 9.
Since he is involved as a pass catcher, he still has FLEX upside, but he’s very hard to trust since his floor is so low and the game flow can go away from him so sharply like it did this last week.
Devin Singletary fantasy football outlook
Singletary actually played 56% of offensive snaps and had eight carries for 43 rushing yards, more than Tracy in each category. While he didn’t get quite as involved in the passing game, he did have two targets and two catches for eight more yards.
Singletary hadn’t had that many carries in any game this season and has yet to find the end zone. Before this year, the veteran had scored four touchdowns or more in each of the last four seasons, so he has the ability to find the end zone if the opportunity is there.
Singletary got more work and was more effective than Tracy this week, so if that trend continues, he could end up with FLEX upside as well. Like Tracy, though, he’s still touchdown-dependent and has a very low floor since his workload is uncertain.
The Bottom Line
The Giants have a decent matchup this week against the Bears, who rank 20th against running backs this season. Running backs have scored eight touchdowns in eight games this season, with 103.0 rushing yards and 29.3 receiving yards per contest. It’s still hard to trust either running back as a flex play, though, with them sharing work.
For one-week contests on DraftKings like the NFL $2.75M Fantasy Football Millionaire [$1M to 1st], Tracy is $5,800 and Singletary is $4,300. Since Singletary is a cheaper play, he makes more sense if they are truly in a 50-50 timeshare, or even as a bargain play since they have similar upside.
If you can get either option, though, Tracy still remains a slightly better option for season-long fantasy, especially in PPR leagues.
