The Broncos won again, extending their streak to six games and are tied for the league’s best record. They’ll begin a two-game home stand in Week 10 against the Raiders.
It’s the first meeting of these division rivals this year with Denver leading the AFC West, while Las Vegas is at the bottom. It’s projected to be a one-sided affair, which could be great for fantasy owners. One player in particular to watch is Courtland Sutton.
The Broncos’ No. 1 wide receiver struggled in last week’s win despite scoring a 30-yard touchdown. It was his only catch on six targets. Is Week 10 a redemption opportunity where Sutton can break out in fantasy football?
The matchup is favorable, but I’m not sold on Sutton maintaining his No. 1 option tag with the Broncos. Troy Franklin has surged in the past three weeks, earning at least eight targets in three straight games and three receiving touchdowns over the span.
The second-year wide receiver was an exciting draft pick with Bo Nix under center, reuniting the two Oregon teammates. After a slow rookie season, Franklin looks like he’s ready to be Denver’s top wideout. His 10 targets in Week 9 was a team-high. Sutton had six.
Neither receiver had a strong showing in Week 9, but the increase in targets for Franklin over the past three weeks is not ideal for Sutton. Fantasy owners should worry about this continuing.
The immediate future isn’t dull, though. Las Vegas comes to town in Week 10 and is an easy matchup for opposing wide receivers. The Raiders rank in the top 11 for most yards, receptions, targets and touchdowns to wide receivers.
This could lead to a good outing from Sutton, but Franklin should still be considered the more valuable Denver wide receiver going forward.
