Week 9 had a few high-scoring contests and wild finishes, allowing players to rack up fantasy points all the way into overtime. In the 11-game slate on DraftKings for the main DFS fantasy football contests, scores were very high overall, with many players posting huge totals. In the biggest contest of the week, the high-scoring entry in the NFL $2.75M FANTASY FOOTBALL MILLIONAIRE [$1M TO 1ST] came from ikeyser21, who finished with 264.7 fantasy points, over seven points clear of the rest of the field of 161,764 entries.
Here’s a look at the highest-scoring entry from the Week 9 millionaire contest:
Drake and the Three Bears
The story of this entry’s fairytale Sunday started with a trio of Bears picks at the core of the lineup. Since the Bears hung 47 points on the Bengals in the early game, the three Bears players in the entry each finished with big games.
Kyle Monangai (25.8 FPTS) was a very popular play in over 54% of entries as he stepped into the lineup for the injured D’Andre Swift. He somewhat surprisingly finished without a touchdown, but he racked up an impressive total of 176 rushing yards on 26 carries while adding 22 yards on three catches as well.
Monangai’s lack of touchdowns was partly due to Caleb Williams (38.7 FPTS) absolutely going off. He threw for 280 passing yards and three touchdowns while also adding 53 rushing yards and even 22 receiving yards on two catches for another touchdown.
One of Williams’ go-to targets was the third Bear in ikeyser21’s entry, as Olamide Zaccheaus (17.8 FPTS)was an excellent leverage and value play at only $3,300 in just under 5% of entries. Zaccheaus hauled in six catches for 58 yards and one of Williams’ scores. While the entry didn’t include Colston Loveland (32.8 FPTS), whose big game was highlighted in our waiver wire pickups, it still got plenty of fantasy points from Chicago’s huge comeback.
Another part of this entry that was just right was the inclusion of Drake London (41.8 FPTS), who was the top wide receiver of the week with nine catches for 118 yards and a massive three touchdowns in the Falcons’ one-point loss to the Patriots.
After missing last week, London was a high-risk play and only in just over 4% of entries, so his monster game helped this entry stand out.
Big stars deliver on big salaries
With salary savings in a few spots like Zaccheaus and in the defense spot (which we’ll get to), ikeyser21 could afford to pay up for some of the biggest stars on the board.
Christian McCaffrey (37.3 FPTS), Ja’Marr Chase (20.1 FPTS) and Brock Bowers (46.3 FPTS) were all pay-up options that came through with big games on Sunday. CMC ran for 106 yards, added 67 receiving yards and scored two touchdowns as the No. 1 running back of the week. The entry’s other running back was Jaylen Warren (16.9 FPTS), who had a pair of rushing touchdowns in the Steelers’ win over the Colts.
Chase didn’t go all the way off since his teammate Tee Higgins (36.1 FPTS) did a lot of the work against the Bears, but he still brought back a solid return of over 20 fantasy points.
Bowers was only in 13.9% of entries in his return from missing all of October with a knee injury. The fantasy stud delivered a huge game in his return, though, with the highest point total of any player all week, totaling 12 catches on 13 targets for 127 yards and three touchdowns in the Raiders’ one-point loss. Maybe he should kick extra points too…
Getting Defensive
The biggest leverage play from the winning entry came at the DST spot, where ikeyser21 went to the bargain basement and came out with the Titans DST (20 FPTS), which was only $2,300 and included in a mere 1.4% of entries.
The Titans had the best DST score of the day, though, with a pair of touchdowns, six sacks and an interception.
Chimere Dike (7.5 FPTS) only had one catch, but that punt return helped make it a good week for both him and the Titans D.
The Bottom Line
This week the top entry from ikeyser21 included some of the biggest stars on the slate and found a few places to go against the grain and get players with high ceilings. Playing Bowers and London in their returns from injury paid off with huge point totals, while Zaccheaus and the Titans were incredible bargain plays that went off at low ownership.
Looking ahead to Week 10, the NFL has another juicy 10-game slate on Sunday afternoon. After a one-week break, the International Series resumes with a game in Berlin on Sunday morning, but 20 teams in the player pool still leave lots of options to consider.
