WR Michael Wilson, Arizona Cardinals ($3,200)
Outside of Trey McBride ($9,000) and Marvin Harrison Jr. ($8,400), there aren’t many standout Cardinals pass catchers. In what could be a shootout vs. the high-octane Cowboys, there’s room for another offensive contributor. The most likely candidate is Michael Wilson, currently the second wideout on Arizona’s depth chart. The Stanford alum hasn’t emerged as a big-time threat during his brief NFL career. However, he’s a reliable safety blanket for a team that desperately needs one.
Over Wilson’s previous two outings, he’s snagged seven catches on nine targets for 84 combined yards. That’s not an eye-popping stat line, but its a decent floor for production. This weekend could be the perfect spot for a much bigger output. The Cowboys have been plagued all season by issues in their secondary. Dallas has surrendered the most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers. To make things more enticing, Arizona could find itself in obvious passing situations on offense if it trails late. Wilson is a fun dart throw with the potential to hit big in Week 9.
RB Jaydon Blue, Dallas Cowboys ($1,400)
Javonte Williams ($10,000) has been rejuvenated in Dallas, ranking among the league’s best running backs. However, he’s not the only player in line for carries on Monday night. Miles Sanders suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 4. Since then, third-stringer Jaydon Blue has established himself as RB2 on the depth chart. During that time, he’s commanded around 20% of all snaps for the Cowboys.
That doesn’t sound like much, but consider the kind of games Dallas has played. The team has either trailed or played a nail-biter during six of their eight contests. Monday’s matchup has the potential to get ugly. If the Cowboys hold a multi-score lead, they should drain the clock. Last Sunday vs. Denver, Blue churned out 29 yards on eight carries. Granted, he also fumbled. But the other options available to head coach Brian Schottenheimer are uninspiring. Considering his extremely low price, the 21-year-old is essentially free. For managers looking to spend more at other positions, he’s a perfect final pick. Pairing Blue with Williams, and locking down the entire backfield, also makes sense.
