For the 43rd straight year, the Breeders’ Cup Classic will occur. This year, the event occurs at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club in Del Mar, California. This is the second year the event will take place at Del Mar and is the first track to host consecutive Breeders’ Cup Classics since Santa Anita in 2012 to 2014.
Last year, Sierra Leone won this event with Jockey Flavien Prat and Trainer Chad C. Brown. The purse for the race was $7 million last year, the most in Breeders’ Cup history, and will have the same amount this year. Prat has been the Jockey for two of the previous three winners at this race.
Sovereignty had a tremendous 2025, winning four races, but is now sick and has had to withdraw from the Breeders’ Cup Classic. The nine horses competing in this year’s event are Fierceness (4/1), Baeza (15/1), Nevada Beach (20/1), Contrary Thinking (50/1), Forever Young (6/1), Sierra Leone (8/1), Mindframe (10/1), Journalism (10/1), and Antiquarian (15/1).

The coverage for this event begins on the USA Network and Peacock and then shifts to NBC for the Breeders’ Cup Classic. NBC hosted the Breeders’ Cup Classic from 1984 to 2005 and resumed its partnership in 2012, continuing to cover the event.
What time is it?
At 2:00 p.m. ET, the coverage begins for the preliminary races. Then, at 4:00 p.m. ET, ahead of the Breeders’ Cup Classic, it moves to NBC. The Breeders’ Cup Classic has a post time of 6:25 p.m. ET.
