CFB Week 8 Prop Bets
Memphis vs. Rice: Cortez Braham Jr. Anytime TD (-105)
Memphis is coming off a massive win over South Florida last week. The Tigers are now a part of the one-loss club in the American Conference, with the key head-to-head tiebreaker over USF. They face both undefeated American teams, Navy and Tulane, in the final weeks. Therefore, they control their path to the American title game and potentially a College Football Playoff spot.
Memphis has an explosive offense that can run with any team in the country. They have a great rushing attack, which the offense is built around. However, they also have one game-breaking receiver, Cortez Braham Jr., who keeps defenses honest. Braham is on fire as of late, going for at least 75 receiving yards in four of his past five games. He is the Tigers’ top target overall, but where he really thrives is in the red zone. He has great hands and Brendon Lewis will throw him a jump ball if he’s in single coverage. Braham has six touchdowns in his past five games, including two last week against USF. The Rice defense is struggling, having given up 95 combined points in its last two games. Memphis should score in bunches here, meaning Braham has a great chance to find the end zone
UNC vs. Syracuse: Gio Lopez 192+ Passing Yards (-113)
Gio Lopez and UNC are finally starting to figure things out. The Bill Belichick era got off to a horrible start at UNC, both on and off the field. However, the team is clearly improving at every level. It hasn’t yet translated to wins, but in the past two weeks they lost by three points on the road against Cal and in overtime to No. 15 UVA. Gio Lopez threw a couple of bad interceptions against Virginia, but outside those mistakes, it was his best game as a Tar Heel. If UNC can get some consistency at quarterback, that could allow things to fall in place across the board. After not attempting more than 25 passes in a game all season, Lopez has thrown it at least 35 times in two games in a row. He had a season-high 208 passing yards last week and should keep that momentum going. Syracuse ranks 97th in the nation in defensive EPA/pass and 129th in defensive passing success rate. Lopez should put up big numbers against the Orange and hit his passing prop total of 192 yards.
