The Green Bay Packers receiver room remains an enigma. Jordan Love will be under center, Josh Jacobs will get a ton of backfield touches, and Tucker Kraft is TE1 through and through. But the wide receivers face many factors. There are injuries, varying skill sets, and varying levels of draft-pick investment. Christian Watson’s return to the lineup only complicates things further.
The oft-injured Watson reeled in four catches for 85 yards in his return, showing his usual chops as a deep threat outside the numbers. And now we must ask the question: Is Romeo Doubs still the Green Bay wide receiver to start in fantasy?
Analysis
Kraft was the top target in Sunday’s win over the Steelers. But there was plenty of meat left on the bone for the wide receivers after him, and it was Watson who took advantage. The 26-year-old had nearly half of the receiving yards that Green Bay’s receivers totaled, while Doubs took a back seat. It was about as good of a return as you could ask for. But there are questions here.
The volume remained for Doubs. He was first in targets and snaps for the receiver group. A 3/44/0 receiving line isn’t going to cut it fantasy-wise, but that’s the risk with Doubs. He had four receiving scores going into last week’s game and continues to lead the wide receivers in targets, yards, and receiving touchdowns on the year. However, the presence of Watson does cast some doubt on things
The verdict
Watson certainly looks like an interesting play if he can keep it up. But that last part is the key. Watson is typically an up-and-down player, and the injuries constantly hold him back. I’m firmly in wait-and-see territory with Watson, which makes Doubs the best play on Sunday against the Panthers. His touchdown upside and down-to-down presence brings a strong floor, whereas Watson’s floor is in the basement.
