It’s been a slow start to the season for Isaiah Pacheco, who ran for 45 yards or fewer in each of Kansas City’s first five games. But as the Chiefs have gotten rolling, so has Pacheco, who has set a season-high in carries and rushing yards in each of the last two weeks. The rise in touches hasn’t been a fluke, as Pacheco has also played his highest snap counts in the last two games.
Those stat lines for Pacheco have been 12 carries for 51 yards against a strong Detroit run defense, followed by 15 carries for 57 yards last week against the Raiders. Washington ranks right around the league average against the run overall, but it’s been night and day when we compare the home and road games. The Commanders are giving up just over 83 rushing yards per game in Washington, but that number jumps to over 131 per game in road games.
The Commanders are giving up a total of 96 rushing yards per game to the running back position, including a 19-116-1 line last week from Javonte Williams. D’Andre Swift also topped 100 yards on the ground against Washington in its previous game. With Kansas City playing as a big home favorite, it sets up as a nice spot to pound Pacheco against a rushing defense that’s going in the wrong direction, and a physical running back that’s getting more involved.
