While Isiah Pacheco’s role this season has varied on a week-to-week basis, the halfback enters this game coming off his highest yardage total of the year thus far. In Week 7, Pacheco handled a season-best 15 rush attempts for 57 yards and a touchdown. He outpaced both veteran Kareem Hunt and rookie Brashard Smith in carries while also racking up 36 of his yards after first contact. Over the last few weeks, it’s clear to see Pacheco rounding more into his old form after looking sapped of his athleticism and signature “angry running” style to start the campaign.
The workload he saw in Week 7 is encouraging for lead-back usage moving forward, though Hunt will likely retain change-of-pace duties while Smith absorbs the receiving work. Still, there’s room for Pacheco to post a productive outing against the Commanders in what could quickly become a very favorable game script. With Washington trotting out Marcus Mariots in lieu of an injured Jayden Daniels, the offense could easily falter early and allow Kansas City to play with a lead throughout the game, creating plenty of rushing opportunities for the Chiefs’ backfield. Plus, the Commanders allow 126 rushing yards per game (21st), 4.3 yards per rush (18th), and an average of 29 rush attempts (28th). The team also comes in at 15th in defensive EPA/rush, so this undoubtedly has the makings of a positive matchup.

While the yardage line of 51.5 is one Pacheco could certainly exceed, he’s only crossed that mark once this season in seven games (57 yards last week). Granted, he came close with 51 yards in the prior contest, but an average of 38.7 rushing yards per game and 4.1 yards per attempt don’t exactly inspire too much confidence in his chances to go over.
