RB Brashard Smith, Kansas City Chiefs ($4,000)
The Chiefs have enjoyed a remarkable turnaround, winning four of their previous five games. That’s due in large part to the play of quarterback Patrick Mahomes ($11,000). On the ground, things have been a work in progress. Starting running back Isaiah Pacheco ($7,000) has been largely ineffective. Veteran Kareem Hunt ($3,000) lacks the top-end speed to serve as an RB1. For a club with Super Bowl aspirations, all options should be on the table. Can anyone else rise to the top of KC’s depth chart?
One name that’s emerged in recent weeks is Brashard Smith. Last Sunday vs. the Raiders, he carried the ball 14 times for 39 yards. Through the air, the rookie hauled in five catches for 42 yards. It’s important to note that the Chiefs dominated this contest, winning 31-0. Therefore, it’s difficult to draw many conclusions from Week 7’s snap share. Still, Smith has looked good in recent weeks, showcasing ability as both a rusher and receiver. The Commanders have surrendered the 12th-most fantasy points to opposing running backs this season. At just $4,000, the 22-year-old offers significant upside on Monday.
WR Chris Moore, Washington Commanders ($2,600)
A banged-up Washington offense got some good news this week. Wide receivers Deebo Samuel ($9,000) and Terry McLaurin ($8,400) are both on track to play vs. Kansas City. Unfortunately, the Commanders will be without franchise quarterback Jayden Daniels (hamstring). That means QB2 Marcus Mariota ($9,200) will get his third start of the season. The former first round pick is one of the league’s better backups, so this offense isn’t in dire straits. He’ll need to be on point to keep pace with Mahomes and the Chiefs.
Samuel and McLaurin could both be on a snap count this week. Even if the two have no restrictions, there’s room for others to emerge on offense. That could lead to a sneaky-good game for Chris Moore. The tenth-year pro had been a non-factor for most of the season. However, he’s earned a total of ten targets over the past two weeks. During that time, the veteran has recorded five catches for 105 yards and a touchdown. The former Panthers wideout has garnered the third-most snaps of any Washington wideout. Considering his low cost, Moore is practically free. That makes him an appealing option for cost-conscious fantasy managers.
