A Big 12 showdown takes center stage in the late window of the Week 9 college football slate on Saturday night. Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes are just 3-4, but now head to Salt Lake City to take on the 5-2 Utah Utes, who are trying to climb in the conference standings. This looks like a fun matchup with plenty of betting options with a little bit of something for everyone.

Wayshawn Parker 50+ rushing yards (+112)
The Utes are one of the most run-happy teams in college football with a clear preference for pounding the rock. Utah runs the ball 57.66% of the time with 42.7 rush attempts per game on average, 15th-most in the sport. While quarterback Devon Dampier leads the team in both rush attempts and yards this season, he’s only probable to play tonight and doesn’t have lines live on DraftKings Sportsbook at the time of this article’s publication. As such, we’re targeting top running back Wayshawn Parker to rack up at least 50 yards on the ground.
The sophomore sits second on Utah’s roster with 358 yards on the ground this year and operates as the lead halfback, though he’s been outpaced slightly in carries by NaQuari Rogers. Still, Parker’s run for at least 50 yards in five of seven games and is more efficient than his backfield mate with 6.0 YPC compared to 4.2 YPC for Rogers. Against a Colorado defense allowing a staggering 188.1 rushing yards per game, the Utes should win in the trenches and help Parker cross the 50-yard threshold on the ground.
Micah Welch 40+ rushing yards (-104)
Look, the Utes have one of the best defenses in the nation, but they’re far more vulnerable on the ground than through the air. Kaidon Salter may find himself shut down tonight against a secondary that allows just 155 passing yards per game, seventh-best in the nation. On the other hand, the Utah defense allows 165 rushing yards per contest, which falls all the way to 86th along with 4.3 YPC. That’s something Colorado certainly looks to take advantage of.
The Buffaloes’ lead halfback doesn’t have eye-popping stats with 62 carries for 277 yards and two scores, but that doesn’t mean he can’t get the job done this evening. Micah Welch will likely see some work as Colorado comes out looking to establish the run against a somewhat vulnerable run defense. Through seven games, the sophomore has hit the 40-yard mark on the ground four times, a hit rate over 50%. While the game script could get ugly, he averages a respectable 4.5 YPC and should see enough work early on to reach that 40-yard mark once more tonight against the Utes.
