It’s all tied up in the Fall Classic. Yoshinobu Yamamoto went the distance once again, twirling a gem backed by plenty of run support as the Los Angeles Dodgers cruised to a 5-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 2 of the World Series on Saturday night. The Dodgers rebounded from a lopsided loss in the series opener to even the series as the Fall Classic shifts to Los Angeles for the next three games — now just three wins away from their second consecutive title.
Yamamoto delivered his second consecutive complete game of the postseason, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out seven and retiring the last 20 batters he faced. It marked the first World Series complete game since Johnny Cueto accomplished the feat in 2015.
Will Smith opened the scoring with an RBI single in the first inning — then crushed a go-ahead solo shot in the seventh. Max Muncy went deep two batters later, and Los Angeles tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the eighth.
The Dodgers have already spoiled Toronto’s home-field advantage and now return to Dodger Stadium with a chance to close out the series at home. For Game 3, they’ll turn to dominant right-hander Tyler Glasnow, who hurled 5.1 innings of one-run ball with eight strikeouts in Game 3 of the NLCS against the Milwaukee Brewers. He’ll face all-time great Max Scherzer, a 41-year-old righty who allowed two runs over 5.2 innings in Game 4 of the ALCS against the Seattle Mariners.
First pitch for Game 3 is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET on Monday. Los Angeles enters as a -196 home favorite on DraftKings Sportsbook, while Toronto sits as a +159 underdog. The total is set at eight runs.
