Germie Bernard is having a spectacular season for Alabama. This Crimson Tide offense has been firing on all cylinders since its opening loss against Florida State. Quarterback Ty Simpson is a legitimate Heisman candidate, and he has an incredible wide receiver duo to throw to. Last season, freshman Ryan Williams took the nation by storm with his flashy plays, but Bernard put up similar numbers to Williams. This season, Williams has been suffering from a bit of a sophomore slump, and Bernard has taken his game to another level. He leads the Crimson Tide in receptions, receiving yards and total touchdowns.
In this game, it should be a pass-heavy approach from Alabama. South Carolina has been tough against the rush, ranking 55th nationally in defensive EPA/rush and 47th in defensive rushing success rate. Alabama already struggles to run the football, so Ty Simpson should try to attack a shaky Gamecocks secondary. He will look to get the ball to Germie Bernard by any means possible. When these two teams faced off last year, Bernard had four catches for 89 yards and a touchdown. It should be another big game for Bernard against South Carolina, finding the end zone for the seventh time this season.
LaNorris Sellers Anytime TD (+185)
It has been a tough season for LaNorris Sellers and South Carolina. Sellers was a freshman sensation last year, leading South Carolina to a nine-win season. However, instead of building a winning roster around their quarterback, South Carolina got worse at almost every position this season. Sellers is constantly running for his life and doesn’t have a great group of weapons to throw to.
If South Carolina is going to generate any offense against Alabama, it will likely come from Sellers playing hero ball. Alabama ranks 32nd in the country in defensive EPA/pass but 98th in defensive EPA/rush. South Carolina should try to run the football and keep the ball away from the Alabama offense. Whenever they get into scoring range, they should lean on their best runner, which is their quarterback. Last season, Sellers had seven rushing touchdowns. While he only has one so far this season, he is averaging 16 rushing attempts per game. Sellers is leaning on his legs this season, and that should lead to a rushing touchdown soon.
