When will the New York Jets get their first win?

Updated:

By: Andy Silva

The New York Jets have started the Aaron Glenn era 0-7, making Glenn the first coach in Jets history to start his tenure with at least five straight losses. Gang Green finds themselves in a familiar place — the bottom of the AFC East.

To make matters worse, owner Woody Johnson went scorched earth. on QB Justin Fields this week at the NFL Owner’s Meetings and Glenn would not confirm who will start under center this Sunday against the 3-4 Bengals at Paycor Stadium. But all that said, does this week represent one of the Jets’ best chances at their first win?

As you can see below, Sunday vs. the Bengals represents the Jets’ second-best odds to pick up their first win (+240) on DraftKings Sportsbook, only behind Week 10 against the 2-5 Browns (+175).

The Jets are +240 underdogs on the moneyline against the Bengals on Sunday and bettors seem to agree, with 83% of the handle and 91% of the bets going on Cincy, according to the DraftKings Network Betting Splits page. New York’s current losing streak is their longest since 2020 and Gotham’s AFC squad has lost four out of their last five to the Bengals.

If you’re looking for silver linings for the Jets … well, they’re hard to find. Consider the following:

  • The Jets have lost each of their last 11 games as underdogs. (Bengals -298 moneyline)
  • The Jets have conceded the first touchdown in each of their last seven games. (Bengals -170 to score first TD)
  • The Jets have lost the first half in each of their last six games. (Bengals -205 moneyline first half)

The Bengals have failed to cover the spread in each of their last seven home games when playing with a rest advantage, making the Jets +6 on the spread (-108) at least somewhat appealing if you must bet on the visitors. The Jets are also 3-4 ATS on the season.

After the Bengals and Browns, the next best odds on DraftKings Sportsbook for the Jets to pick up their first win come against a pair of AFC East rivals: In Week 11 at New England (+800) and Week 14 vs. Miami (+900) at home.

The Jets are +2500 to finish 0-17. The last NFL team to finish a season winless was the 2017 Cleveland Browns, who went 0-16.
