I’m not exactly the biggest Sparty fan this season, but if we’re talking more than two touchdowns for a home underdog facing the Wolverines, then you have my attention.
Michigan has played three road games so far this season, going 1-2 SU/ATS. I couldn’t back Nebraska in a game that the Cornhuskers shifted from dogs to favorites, but did have winners with Oklahoma and USC in the Wolverines’ two road losses. This is a completely different game, with Michigan in the role of a big road favorite. We’re talking about a big game for the Spartans here, though, in what sets up as a Saturday night in-state rivalry game at home on national television.
While Michigan State hasn’t been very successful against the spread at home, it has been when priced as an underdog this season — 3-0 ATS. This is the first time Sparty will be in the home underdog role this season, and I think it comes at the perfect time. MSU has been going up against strong competition recently, and should be well prepared for Michigan.
Aidan Chiles and the Sparty offense have big play potential, and Michigan’s defense has shown to be flawed this season — particularly on the road. On the flip side, getting Bryce Underwood away from home in a rowdy road atmosphere at night hasn’t gone well so far for the freshman. Obviously, Michigan State is softer competition in comparison to the other road tests the Wolverines have faced this season, but I like the home underdogs to keep this one within two touchdowns on Saturday night.
CFB Pick: Michigan State +14.5 (-110)
