After eight episodes of college hijinks with a gory twist, Gen V season 2 is over. The spinoff of The Boys wrapped up Wednesday, all while setting up what comes next in the main-line show.
Here is a quick breakdown of how the season finale leads into the upcoming fifth and final season of The Boys, as well as everything else we know about the end of the cornerstone Amazon Prime Video series.

How did Gen V season 2 end?
Dr. Thomas Godolkin revealed himself to the world, which wasn’t part of his master plan with Sister Sage. As it turned out, Sage leaked the Odessa info to Starlight and set the whole season into motion. Godolkin had his own plans of “culling the herd,” though, so he invited every student at God U to the training room. He forced the young supes to fight each other to the death, getting rid of ones he deemed to be inferior. The doctor then told Sage that his new end goal was to control both Marie and Homelander and reshape the supe superiority movement.
Marie, Jordan, Emma, Sam, Greg, Cate, Annabeth, Harper and Ally teamed up to free the remaining students, but Godolkin had tuned his powers enough to control Marie and turn her against her friends. Sage freed Polarity, however, knowing that Godolkin had to be stopped. Polarity showed up just in time and broke Marie out of Godolkin’s control, and she proceeded to take a page out of the Head Popper’s playbook to take him out for good.
Marie, Jordan, Emma, Sam, Annabeth and Cate – whose powers Marie fixed – left campus and went on the run. Before they got very far, Starlight and A-Train tracked them down and offered them a spot in “The Resistance.”
When does The Boys season 5 come out?
The Boys season 5 is slated to come out in 2026. While no specific date has been announced for the premiere, the first four seasons debuted in July, September, June and June, respectively. Series creator Eric Kripke confirmed that production for season 5 wrapped on July 2. Prior seasons premiered anywhere between nine and 14 months after production finished, so a summer release feels likely.
Each of the first four seasons were eight episodes, as were the first two seasons of Gen V, so it is safe to assume The Boys season 5 will follow the same format. Every season of The Boys and Gen V has started with a three-episode premiere, followed by five weeks of single-episode drops. Season 5, episode 1 is confirmed to be titled “The “Fifteen Inches of Sheer Dynamite.”
What will The Boys season 5 be about?
Kripke said in a recent interview with The Wrap that The Boys season 5 will pick up about six months after Gen V season 2 wraps up. Outside of that timeline, Homelander’s ongoing push for supe supremacy and the impending cast crossover from Gen V season 2, there isn’t much out there about the story for The Boys season 5.
The Boys comic originally ran from October 2006 to November 2012, racking up 72 issues along the way. The show has diverged wildly from the original story over the years, so the ending could take many different turns, as well.
What other The Boys spinoffs are coming up?
Back in August, Amazon announced that Vought Rising had entered production. It has been positioned as a prequel series that takes place in the 1950s. Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy and Aya Cash’s Stormfront will be the show’s leads. Whether or not the show returns for a second season remains to be seen, per Kripke. The Boys: Mexico, meanwhile, is currently in development. The pilot script is still being hashed out for the Diego Luna-produced spinoff, which will star Gael García Bernal should it proceed into production.
Kripke and his team have had ideas for a season 3 of Gen V, but its chances depend on the viewership numbers for season 2. As for the animated anthology series The Boys Presents: Diabolical, Kripke said that it was not renewed for a season 2.
