The Chicago Bears used the No. 10 overall pick in last year’s draft on tight end Colston Loveland out of Michigan. The 21-year-old was the highest tight end taken in the 2025 NFL Draft, but several other rookie tight ends have been more productive than him in the first several weeks of the season. Is it worth using a fantasy football roster spot on Loveland at this point? Should you stash him for later in the year, or move on to other options?
Let’s take a look at the fantasy football outlook for the rookie tight end to see if he has a chance to be fantasy relevant down the road even in deep leagues.
Colston Loveland fantasy football outlook
Loveland’s production hasn’t been anything to get very excited about. He had two catches in his NFL debut for 12 yards in Week 1 before being shut out in Week 2. He had the longest catch of his career in Week 3 with a 31-yard catch against the Cowboys, which was his only catch of the day.
Loveland missed Week 4 with a hip injury but was healed enough to return in Week 6 after the bye week. The Bears have focused on getting him involved a little more with seven targets in his two games since then. He had two catches for 11 yards against the Commanders, and a career-high three catches for 24 yards in Week 7 against the Saints. He also tied with DJ Moore for a team-high in first read targets in Week 7.
Part of that surge in usage was due to the fact that Cole Kmet left the game with a back injury. He was ruled out fairly quickly, but his status for Week 8 is up in the air.
Mostly after Kmet left, Loveland played a season-high 67% of snaps. He made a difference in the run game and looked like a solid part of the offense after Kmet left, which could set him up for success if Kmet misses time.
The Bottom Line
Loveland is worth stashing in deep leagues since his playing time is on the rise and he’s in an offense that looks to be finding a good groove. He can even be an emergency start this week in deep leagues if Kmet is out.

Loveland doesn’t have nearly as high of a ceiling as Oronde Gadsden II, who is a great pickup, or even Dalton Schultz, who is a safe PPR play at this point. However, he is worth a look if you’re in a deep league where those options are gone, or if you are desperate for a play with potential down the road.
