Unlike the other New York club, there isn’t much hope or excitement with the Jets. They’re the only winless team right now and will play the Panthers this week.
The Panthers are 3-3 and enter this matchup on a two-game win streak.
Carolina is a 1.5-point favorite and -130 on the moneyline, while New York is +110 on DraftKings Sportsbook. The game total is set at 42.5 points.
Here are my favorite player props for this Week 7 NFL game between the Jets and Panthers.
Jets vs. Panthers Best Prop Bets
Rico Dowdle 59.5 rushing yards (-114)
Chuba Hubbard entered the season as the primary running back in Carolina, but he may have lost his job due to an injury. Rico Dowdle stepped in and posted back-to-back games of at least 183 rushing yards.
Typically, this would result in a higher rushing yards prop line, but Hubbard could return this week. While most fans may be willing to give Dowdle the starting nod, it’s not always that simple. Hubbard may still lead the backfield, even if the opportunities are split more evenly now.
Still, 59.5 rushing yards is far too low for Dowdle. Even if he’s the secondary running back, he shouldn’t have an issue hitting the over on this mark. Dowdle averaged 9.0 yards per carry against the Dolphins and 6.1 against the Cowboys.
Those are incredible numbers, but let’s use 4.0 yards per carry for an example. If Dowdle averages just 4.0 yards per carry against the Jets, he’ll need 15 carries to hit the over. That’s a noticeable drop from 23 and 30 carries in the past two weeks.
Justin Fields under 42.5 rushing yards (-112)
The Jets are in trouble, especially if Garrett Wilson is sidelined. The 0-6 start is hard to overcome and will likely end in a tanking season. The Panthers were expected to be a weak squad, but they’re 3-3 thus far.
Justin Fields will have a difficult time if Wilson is out because more of the focus will be on the ground game. Breece Hall is the primary running back, but Fields often gets out of the pocket to rush, too.
If Wilson isn’t playing, the defense doesn’t have to worry as much about the passing game. This could allow Carolina to set up a quarterback spy for Fields, so he can’t sneak around for some free yardage.
Fields has hit the over in three of five games this year, but he didn’t hit it in his past two performances. Teams may be more aware of his willingness to run, thus preparing for the defense appropriately.
Tetairoa McMillan anytime touchdown (+165)
Tetairoa McMillan finally found the endzone in Week 6 of his rookie season. The No. 8 overall pick had a lot of hype surrounding him, and he’s been a great addition to the Panthers’ offense thus far.
While it took six weeks to score a touchdown, McMillan made it worth the wait, grabbing two touchdowns in the win against Dallas. That was essentially all he did, however, as he finished with three catches for 29 yards and two scores.
With Bryce Young at quarterback, it’s tough to bet on McMillan’s yards or receptions. Young has only recorded more than 200 yards once this season — 328 in Week 2 against the Cardinals.
Instead, betting on McMillan’s touchdown is the better option. It has more value and doesn’t require Young to complete multiple passes. All it takes is one good throw in the redzone — or further if McMillan breaks loose.
