With Mac Jones starting in place of Brock Purdy (toe) and Ricky Pearsall (knee) out the last two weeks, Bourne has been brilliant as Jones’ main target. Bourne has produced 142 receiving yards in back-to-back games, making him the NFL’s No. 2 player in receiving yards during this stretch. In these contests, Bourne is leading the 49ers with a 24.3% target share and an 84% route rate. Plus, he is seeing a 15.2 aDOT.
For this Sunday night’s matchup with the Falcons, Jones will continue to start in place of Purdy, and Pearsall will remain sidelined. However, George Kittle (hamstring) will return after getting injured in Week 1. The tight end is a great target earner, who has seen a target on 22% of his routes over the last two seasons, but in his absence, Jake Tonges has been a strong target earner himself, garnering a target on 21% of his routes.
Kittle is obviously the more prolific player than Tonges, but in his first game back, Kittle shouldn’t see many more targets than Tonges did, and as a result, Bourne should continue to see plenty of volume. This is a tough matchup, with Atlanta giving up the third-fewest yards per pass this season (4.6), but 46.5 receiving is way too low a line for Bourne and his large expected role. This game has the potential to be high scoring, with a 46.5-point total on DraftKings Sportsbook, and Bourne should surpass his 46.5 receiving yards line with ease.
