The new-look ACC has given us some fascinating intra-conference matchups. That includes tonight’s contest, a cross-country showdown between Florida State and Stanford. For the latter, it’s a chance to bounce back following last week’s 34-31 loss to Pitt. As for the Cardinal, a victory over FSU would give them three wins over their last four games.

Thomas Castellanos 230+ passing yards (-104)
In spite of FSU’s recent slip-ups, this has still been a solid season in Tallahassee. That’s due in large part to the arrival of Boston College transfer Tommy Castellanos. The senior has already established himself as one of the nation’s top dual-threat quarterbacks. Through six games, he’s thrown for 1,365 yards, scrambled for 286 more, and scored 13 total touchdowns. In addition, Castellanos leads the ACC with 9.9 yards per pass attempt.
That big-play ability could come in handy tonight against a questionable Stanford secondary. The Cardinal has allowed 303.7 passing yards per game to opponents, the second-worst mark in the conference. In comparison, they’ve allowed a respectable 114.7 rushing yards per game, sixth-best in the ACC. If Stanford’s run defense holds up, Castellanos might be forced to throw the ball. Should that occur, it may not take many pass attempts to hit the over tonight.
CJ Williams 70+ receiving yards (-108)
Florida State is a near-lock to put up plenty of points on Saturday. That means it’ll be up to Stanford’s offense to keep things close. Quarterback Ben Gulbranson has been uninspring, throwing for 1,445 yards and six touchdowns while giving up four interceptions. With that being said, the QB has formed an impressive connection in recent weeks. Wideout CJ Williams has been on a heater, accumulating 342 receiving yards and a touchdown over his last three outings.
The Wisconsin transfer has already surpassed his season-high receiving total of 248 yards. At this point, it’s fair to wonder if his recent production is fool’s gold. However, it’s not as if there’s much competition for targets on this Stanford offense. In a game that could see the Cardinal trailing by multiple scores, Gulbranson might have to throw early and often. In addition, Florida State has allowed 7.4 yards per pass attempt, tied for the conference’s fourth-highest mark. Given his domination over the past few weeks, I’ll gladly back Williams on Saturday night.
